flat towing
I have flat towed my clone on several occasions without any problems, Longest trip flat towing was years ago, from southern california, to Florence, Oregon, on that trip it rained non stop, and we had to stop and borrow a drill to drill drain holes in the pan, as we had taken great steps to seal thi...

I would make sure the advance is working on the distributor. Hook up a timing light and see if the timing advances when you rev up the engine.

carb question
On my 1915, I have run a single carb, mainly because the body was cut for that, and also because it seemed simpler and therefore more trouble free. I have had 3 different carbs on my engine, the first was a Holley Bugspray, great wide open performance, loaded up on the rough stuff, and generally it ...

rotary power?
On my buggie I have a 1915, 110 engle cam, stock dual port heads, lightened flywheel, 009 with compufire, Manx sidewinder exhaust, single Zenith 32 2 barrel carb, a couple of years ago I drove it up and down the Tioga Pass Road into Tuolemne Meadows, at its highest point, it is over 11,000 feet, I h...

Unless your goal is flat out speed, I dont think there is anything wrong with a vw engine, the buggy was designed to work with one, the trans was designed for one, they have been around for ever, and all performance modifications have been tried and proven, you can easily boost stock horsepower by 5...

bolt on valve covers
Mine are not manx covers, but they are bolt on aluminum. You replace the rocker arm nuts with the coupler nuts that I think come with the kit, you will have to re torque the rockers, should adjust your valves, the O ring goes over the bolts on the inside of the covers, between the coupler nuts and t...

As Don mentioned, strap kits can be used to keep the spring plates from sliding off the stop, sometimes the stop is worn out so it no longer is a flat surface, but slopes down and is more likely to allow the spring plate from sliding off. If you use a strap, you can weld a stop to it, to keep the ti...

rossdc, most engines use a harmonic balancer, a vw does not, I think mostly because it was meant to be cheap, a heavy pulley should help balance and smooth out the engine. This engine is for my 16 year old sons first car, and I live in a very hilly town, so I am building an engine to make low end po...

On my buggy, I run a 1914, stock heads, 110 engle with stock springs, stock rockers on solid shafts, counterweighed crank, lightened flywheel, 009, single weber 40 idf. Have run this engine with a single zenith 32 before, and was very smooth and tractable, but lacked top end, with the 40 idf its bet...

clean pedal cluster
I also run just the stock pedal cluster, and it gets plenty dirty and dusty, and occasionally the accelerator starts acting up a bit, but astrong return spring keeps it working must of the time. I attempt to keep it clean by using compressed air to blow it clean, and sometimes hose it down, I know i...

I have an old set of VDO Classic series gauges that was given to me when I bought the buggy body, all the gauges needed some work, including spending 100.00 to make the speedo work (not very accurate), the gauge always reads backwards, I have tried switching wires, etc., but its O.K., since I know h...

shift bushing
I also replaced my without much trouble, I just posted the info about the bracket being held up by the shifter bolts after drilling out the spot welds, because maybe it would help Shaihulud. He may not need to cutout and weeld a section of his tunnel to replace the bracket.

About 2 weeks ago, I was at a garage sale, and the guy had a timing light, a multi function Sears diagnostic machine (tach, dwell, ampmeter, voltmeter) as well as vaccum gauge, compression tester, a second hand held dwell/tach, and all for $20.00, when I told him I would be using this on a V.W., he ...
