I'm not sure what "gate galvanized" material is, but be very careful welding galvanized metal...its fumes are very unhealthy.

Just galvanized steel...will a mig weld this with no problem? Should I go with the wall thickness of the square tube to know what amperage I need in this case? I wouldnt have to weld any 1/4" plate, only up to 1/8 so I think I can go with a 80 to 100 amp mig. suggestions?

There seems to be a lot of info on the above mentioned thread, but I like the little Hobart welders. If you're gonna buy one buy better than what you think you need it'll work out better for ya in the long run. Get one that uses shielding gas not flux wire. Hobart 135 Hobart 125

Based on the awesome informative feedback I recieved from the guys on here in that post, input from my vo-tech teacher and numerous visits to my brother in law's house who is a old time Union Welder (who lives to dang far away) I can say I will be buying a Miller. :2cents: Thanks again guys for the input.

No, it's not mine. It's a mid engine buggy I found on Jerry's site. More here...towards the bottom.

Image Alex, I just remembered there was a Dune Buggy that had the hood, dash and windshield tilt forward. It was this one. Actually the panels along the side of the cockpit above the belt line also tilted forward. Notice how there is no lower skirt on the nose because if there were it would hit the front suspension when the hood opens. I have a DB&HVWs article. Send me your email and I'll scan and send it to you.

Still havent reached that stage of the build but will soon, in a few weeks. Anyways I have some ideas on making the hinges myself with the skirt without it hitting the beam, simple just make sure the pivot point is right on the lower edge of the skirt. Will keep u guys posted if it worked. Need to buy a digital cam so I can post pics, but the 100$ it costs can be used for parts and materials!

Bill Cushenberry the guy who did the Gypsy was also the guy who did the Batmobile, not George Barris as is commonly believed. Barris is the guy who also did the Barris-T Buggy, which is not one of my favorite designs. http://www.geocities.com/~1966/futurabat.htm
