suspension help
I posted this same in the public forum, but got no help. It seems most of those guys are into street buggies. Anyhow, I am planning my next buggy, it will be a long body, on a linkpin/IRS pan, planning a homemade 1 1/2" or so body lift, probably incorporated into new side rails around the pan. My questions center around the suspension. How much travel can I expect out of a linkpin beam with stock arms, what modifications can I make and still fit under a clone body? I have 2 beams available,a stock one with adjusters, as well as a warrior type aftermarket (too tall, I think). What front shocks? For the rear I am planning stock reinforced trailing arms (IRS), how much travel can I get out of that? Will stock CV's do O.K. with a 2017, or so? I know this is a lot of questions, but I figure someone here has dealt with this before, and can probably save me some wasted time. Use for the buggy will be dual purpose, with about 10 to 15 days a year at Glamis, the rest around town. My current buggy is shortened, no lift, swing/balljoint, adjustable spring plates, 24mm bars in back, adjusters in front, reworked torsion leaves, stock balljoints, cheap oil shocks in front, GR2 KYB in back. 1914 on a prostreet style transaxle. I am looking for more room, and a better ride thru the whoops, and ruff stuff. Thanks in advance.

I have a friend who is using a Warrior front end and there are holes cut thru the body to accomodate the higher shock towers, ( which don't look too bad) and he just purchased some Fox gas shocks (light) from Kartek, in Corona, Ca. Myself, I just used a larger torsion bar size in the rear, to keep the tires from hitting the glass. With a full length pan you will get a better ride. On the street it will be a little stiff, but I just keep the PSI down to about 8# in the rear tires and I get a good ride. I'll get a phot and post it later of the Warrior front beam set up. My :2cents: worth Jimbo Here are a couple of photos showing the shock towers:
The shocks are Fox #98099024A 8 in 5/8'' shaft 21 in pro 1092

I just installed a 6" wider beam with link pin today. I softened the torsion and raked the front beam. My old ball joint front end, cut and turned was so stiff. I really like the ride now. The shocks are three inches taller and fit under the fenders. My gas tank is in the rear and I have a tube frame so my front end is much lighter than most. Keep it light and you wont need so much suspension. Just ask a Tow'd owner..........
If you are on a budget go with the bus cv's. They hold up way better than the bug ones. I heard that there is a way to dress them up with a scotch bright wheel to get even more reach out of them. I have never tried that, I just replace them when they get crunchy with another used one. When I had the bug cv's out board on my sand buggy I would blow them to bits at least one every trip. I don't know if the 930 cv's take the same mounting flange??That may be an upgrade to the bus ones down the road.
