Hey Roger. Nice setup. I have one question. What is it that you've got installed inline with the brake line? A residual valve? Image

Yes Tom, it is a residual valve which was recommended by CB Performance, (where I bought my rear disc brake kit), when using disc brakes front and rear. Hope they are right. Won't know till I get my Manx on the road.

Jim , I took the grommets off of the Volvo master cylinders. Most of them came right off with the resevoir, some were a little bit stubborn. The junkyard guy must be wondering what I'm doing with all those resevoirs !!! LOL!

Does any one know what year the Rabbit reservoir is for the German Master Cylinder? Mine is a brand new FTE german master p/n 113 611 015 BD or BO and says FTE on the master. Pics are available if it would help, it appears to have the 10mm plastic tubes to connect to the remote mounted reservoir. But this would be such a clean install why rerun hoses. Any of the parts places near here do not stock new reservoirs and will only order when the money hits the counter. So I hesitate to just have them guess, since none of their parts books list a dimension from hole to hole. Thanks for any possible info, Bob

I remember that Lee Hoffer has experience with the Rabbit resevoir on his buggy. Give him an e-mail. I'm sure he would be glad to help you.

tgodber, I have already emailed Lee, and he thought that it was 70's something Rabbit, the problem that I'm running into is that no one stocks them in my area. The VW dealer will order any of them AFTER I pay for it and when it comes in its mine wether it fits or not. By the way, there first reaction was "it wont fit, they are two different cars and the masters are completely different", but they would special order anything I want as long as it's at the werehouse somewhere. But us F/G Buggy people are used to that mindset. LOL Just trying to narrow the choices a bit, rather than start a unusable reservoir collection on the shelf of fill the trash can. So if anyone knows for sure, please let me know. Thanks for the help. Bob

Here's the engine compartment from an '82 Rabbit. The reservoir looks exactly like the one I have (at least from above): Image This '84 Rabbit GTI has a reservoir that looks the same: Image Here's a lousy picture of the one on my buggy for comparison: Image It's hard to be sure without seeing the nipples that go into the master cylinder, but if the cost isn't too bad, I would try an early eighties one.

Lee, Thanks for the pics of your Manx and of the Rabbits. I will take them over to the parts places and ask more questions. If and when I get an answer I will make sure and post it so any F/G Buggy owner that needs the info on their german master cylinder will be able to find the right one. Nice Rabits are those your new daily drivers? Thanks again See you Sat for breakfast! Bob

Bob, Those aren't my Rabbits, they are just photos I found on the 'net. I wish I had paid more attention when I plucked the reservoir out of the one in the junkyard! Of course, that was five years ago...

Does anyone have any of the Volvo 240 brake reservoirs? I'm looking for two of them. I was able to swap the German master for a TRW/Vargas and it appears to have the larger nipples. I could use one for each of the buggies if they are still around. (one for the Manx and one for the Towd) Thanks, Bob

Dual master cylinder reservoir

For what it's worth dept. After using Lee's advice, went to the local VW yard(about 60 miles away)and purchased a Rabbit res.,year unknown but the owner said they were all the same.Brought it home and made the mod's Lee suggested (a little Dremel grinding and some sandpapering ) plus purchasing 2 o-rings and the res.fits like a factory piece.Use the tubes that came with the m/c as a model to determine how and what to grind.Hope this helps, good luck.

Roger, In your post on the MC Forum about the Volvo reservoirs you mentioned that you just cleaned it up and installed it. What did you use to clean it, because it looks brand new? What solution or chemicals to use that would not destroy the plastic. Did you flush or clean the inside also? I also assume that it was not cleaned with water, so what is the proper method? Thanks, Bobmanx
CM Rick, got the reservoir, cleaned it and just finished installing it. Many thanks for your RAK! I've added a picture of the install to show again how sanitary this conversion is. Image
