Im supprised you cant get more help in locating one or finding the guy who molded them in USA,,,, someone on here must know QUOTE] Image Wouldn't it be easier to just get a hood and cut it through along the same line as the the opening type and add a fiberglass inner lip to the cowl section like in the picture. I can't imagine it would take more than a few hours of work. I'm sure that's how they must have made the one they pulled the mold off. I think the only tricky part would be doing the scallops for the headlight mounts.

I agree, getting a 2nd hood and cutting / fabbing up a lift out of that would be much more realistic than trying to track down a mold. We actually started discussing that route here locally before I asked. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask since I'd spend money either way. Then again, I could just save money and cut the original since it's MINE. ALL MINE!! :) harhar (just kidding I'd rather experiment on a non-original) Also considered making the hinges hidden like the Beetle hoods or a swing forward lift. I don't think I'd worry too much about the scallops though. From what I recall of the early Manx, there were no scallops on those lift hoods.

The scallops I could make for you here,, would not take too long to mold those small parts,,, easy to mail too. Will try & get some more pics of it on a buggy with the inner molding too.

Maybe making a "re-fit" kit including 1) the "fiberglass inner lip" for the cowl section, 2) the inner molding for the reinforcing (not knowing what that actually look likes, maybe just some "ribs" for adding stiffness), and 3) the headlight mounts? Everything would need to be glassed in to an existing hood, but, that could be done by us novices. Maybe a paper template of where to cut the existing hood into two pieces would be good. All that stuff would be smaller than shipping an entire opening hood over here to the U.S. From the last bug I dismantled, I've got all the bug, hood hardware; hinges, latch (pin & socket), release cable, lift handle, etc. I'd volunteer to test it out. I've always been interested in an opening hood...
and some more...phew!!! Image
Thanks Dave :D You get the idea now guys, that inner panel is a sparate molding that is bonded to the hood whilst its still in the mold to keep the shape,, it makes em real strong around the headlamp mounting points too.

Image Just saw this picture posted last March on the RBC site, from somebody in the UK with an opening hood in the background. Look familiar Mel or David? http://p066.ezboard.com/frbcdunebuggyfrm12.showMessage?topicID=237.topic

Dave wont know he's too far north :D that looks like a southern meet, sure that last orange buggy in the line up is my mate Ashleys

I found the poster(Retrobuggy)'s photobucket album. http://s172.photobucket.com/albums/w28/retrobuggy/ Here's another of his buggy's. It sure looks like a Manx but the rear license cut out is super wide. Are all the UK Manx's like that? Image
Are all the UK Manx's like that?
Thats not a UK ''authentic'' Meyers Manx, but a ''Manx type'',, the early UK authentic ones were molded from 1167 taged Meyers Manx 2 & the later ones were molded direct from a new siggy Manx body, so they will be the same shape as USA ones. Its a long story with some bad vibes,, would rather not go back there,, lets just say some guys would rather create problems than buggy kits
