Fubar, The type IV does have a full flow oil filter mount. Inside the filter mount is a large pressure relief valve that has been known to fall out. On Jake Raby's site Aircooled Tecnology forums which is just about the type IV engines there are articles about removing the bypass valve and plugging it and about replacing the oil galleries soft plugs that pop out from oil pressure on stock engines. There are a few behind the flywheel and near the oil cooler that when they pop out can cause major damage to the engine. As for the threads on the filter mount, a Fram PH-8A will screw on. Thread diameter measure .010" smaller than remote filter mount.

Oily stuff

Thanks to everyone for posting their ideas and suggestions. Personally, I use filters sold by a local Car Quest franchise. They are made for Car Quest by Wix and cross references to a filter that will work for auto trannys. (I figure that means they can accept some pressure). It screws right on to the remote adapter, just like a HP-1. I'm running a 26 mm pump and 15w-40 oil, and have had no failures. (Yet). I do tend to take it easy for the first few miles, though. Good luck to all....... C-Ya,
