SurfNC, i like your sollution. i have to stick mine on the passenger side in a board bag and have to kind of hold on to it sometimes so it won't blow out. guess i'll have to make me one of those. Thanks for the pics.

Hey Vince & Bud, I missed the board in Charleston (sold, before I got in touch w/seller). A month & a half later, still no board. Best deal found so far is over $200; so still looking. I did find out that Greyhound bus line will ship a board for around $50 (under 50 pounds, less than 82"); so, some good news on the search. If you guys see ads along the NC coast, I'd appreciate the "heads up". Also, Vince - where did you buy the side view mirror mounts? I don't see anything like that in any of my catalogs... Thanks. Bill

Bill, I'll keep my eyes open. Are you looking for a long or short board? Bud

Bud, A ~6' 6" is "ideal". Anything less than 6' will be close on bridging windshield to rollbar & 6' 10" is max Greyhound will ship (keeping low cost approach alive). I guess that's a short board. Thanks for looking!

Mirror Mounts

Post by surfnc »

Hey Bill, I got them from Dino at Bugshields, but I have also found them here: http://www.pacificcustoms.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PC&Product_Code=AC845040&Category_Code=8MIRRORS and they are a little cheaper. I will keep an eye out for a board for you as well. Vince

I made my ?rack? out of some red oak and bolted it to the hard top. Added a set of rack pads and tie it all down with a pair of d-ringed board tie-downs. I?m getting back into surfing after 25 years, so the long board works for me. The board is a RS 9'-6", perfect for an old guy like me, easy to get up on on our small Florida surf. I?ve had the car doing 70 mph on the way to the beach and everything is stable. Get a lot of thumbs up too. I put it on for shows once in a while as well.

Dave, the look is "awesome"! While I don't live close to the beach, nor have I surfed before, my kids came up with the idea after looking over my shoulder while browsing the Manx member pictures. I was concerned about stablity, so it's good to hear that the board can be placed to avoid issues. I ordered my mirror mounts (thanks Vince) today, so I can work on mounting system ahead of getting a board. Will post photos when finished...

Surfboard - - - Flying High...

Post by 63Fiberbuggy »

Been flying the surfboard this summer, but didn't take time till now to update/post pictures...I made the front mount based on Vince's idea, w/a twist...used a stainless drawer pull from Lowes...treaded outside to fit in mirror mounts & used stainless U-bolts/nuts/etc. to hold board in place. For rear....used bolt-thru the roll bar...w/some "trees" to adjust height. I plan to fill/sand/paint the board, probably a winter job. Thanks again to mightymanx ; madmanx ; & SurfNC, for the help! - - Bill Image Image

Bill, that looks great. I'm glad you were finally able to find a used board. I'm still looking around for a cheap one. Bud
