anyone autocross anymore?

i stopped down at an autocross event this morning. first one i've seen in person. i know buggys autocrossed successfully back in the 60s but does anyone do any now? it looked like loads of fun and i am pretty sure i am going to end up at least trying it. did any of you do it back in the day? anything special a buggy needs to do it successfully? i am thinking of doing it for fun not for competition by the way. the guys there at the event didn't even know what class a buggy might be in! thanks

thanks! that's cool and the type of stuff i was looking for. there isn't a book or anything with more info on the buggy's racing heritage is there? It is sort of mentioned in the hale books but not anything in depth. trying to get a couple of the buggys here to try it as well as some of the guys in the all make club. show these kids how it's done old school. (and hopefully we will be able to keep up

Wilcox originally raced with a Corvair engined Devin. When the Devin crashed he took the engine and put it in a Meyers Manx. There is a letter on here he wrote to Bill Devin about his success. http://www.devinsportscars.com/DevinC.html The only books about buggy racing I know of are Off-Road racing books. I think the SCCA would have a lot of information about getting into autocross.

scca is who i am talking to now. trying to figure out what will be needed and what class a buggy would be in. the first obstacle is a hoop bar is not acceptable in any modified class.

at least one additional support is required to the back or the front, attached to the chassis. and i definately will need to lighten my steering. possibly just airing up the front tires but i haven't yet tried it. it will be the lower 'friendly competiton' level. not the regional with the license neccessary and all that. i spoke to the organizers and drivers of the scca event nearby here yesterday and they were all very friendly and helpful though. but all 'new' cars.
