NOTE: As of mid 2015 Desert Craft is not in business anymore, and there is no further information available. js

You might want to check out the Garage section of the Manx Club web site. There's a "How-to" on building a roof rack among the other good articles. link...

I used the roof-rack design in the Manx sites garage, but use plywood for the base! I weigh 200+ & have stood on it! The upper roof-rack is an aluminum one that normally straps to the roof/rain gutters of a car. I also have an enclosed pod that I can install after removing the aluminum rack. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3565/359 ... 4e81_m.jpg

I modified an aluminium trailer hitch rack from Harbor Frieght to bolt on top of our cage. It's not a big rack, but does offer enough room to get quite a few items out of the passenger compartment. It ran about $100 including the parts to clamp on to the roll bars.

Bossman, Any chance of a photo or two of your modified Harbor Freight rack? I'm also in the same boat of looking to buy, fab up or modify something to work for me. Tom, The plan for the roof rack in the Manx club garage looks like it may work also. Thanks, Dan

Here is a photo of the rack just sitting on top of the cage. I ordered some 1.5" diameter roll cage mounts and attached them to the rack. Now it bolts on/off with little effort. Now all I have to do is paint it black. Image

Black Widow Rack

Post by Scott-Drolet »

I'm using this Black Widow basket mounted on Thule 450 Crossroad rack feet. If you have a roll cage, the Thule rack feet work great. (I already had the Thule load bars, so I just had to buy the feet. But, the load bars are inexpensive) The basket is $110.00 from Discount Ramps, and the Thule feet are $153.00 at Rack Attack, a little steep but they come with free replacement for life. So, for around $300.00 with shipping I have a rack that's rock solid and looks great. Here's a picture of the rack installed: Image Heres the link to the basket and fairing: http://www.discountramps.com/roof-rack-basket.htm Here's the link to the Thule feet: http://www.thuleracks.com/product.asp?dept_id=2&sku=450
