New to the club just got the thumbs up from Winnie & Bruce authenticating my buggy find as a Meyers Manx. It needs a little TLC and I haven?t' owned a VW in 35 years but I am looking forward to spending some quality time this one. I have been reading a lot of posts and Vdubs have changed allot in that time so I may be asking for help from time to time. Oh yea 1st question what are those adjusting bolts in the middle of my front I beam?

Hello and welcome. It sounds like your axle beam is fitted with hieght adjusters. If you post a close-up photo we'll let you know for sure. Nice looking Buggy but I'm not too sure about the opening hood hatch...

It looks like your buggy originally had Lucas 488 front turn indicators. They're classic. You can still get new ones. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Flasher-Indicator ... 5943QQcmdZ I'm with Dave on the hinged door in the hood. If you close up the door you can also relocate the fuel filler to the rear of the tank and close the big hole next to the headlight. Flip top fillers look good and work well.

Hi Ken, I'm with the guys on the hood thing, but no big deal to sort out and well worth doing it especially after getting the thumbs up from Meyers!!.

The rest of the body looks really straight, if it were mine I'd treat it to a new hood and maybe dash from Bruce... http://www.meyersmanx.com/mmstore/store-manxhood.shtml

It depends on your budjet though, the old one would be repairable.

Thanks for the feed back on my buggy I just returned from Tucson by way of Valley Center where I meet Bruce & Winnie and picked up a new hood for my Manx I too did not care for the access door in the middle of the hood either I would have liked to have kept the original hood but the cost of repair way exceeded the cost of a new hood also i have the original ABS Dash it is a little bit rough but i would like to try to save the original. thanks for the feed back

Nelson I have the bodies of the turn indicators no lenses Can you tell me a little more about relocating the fuel filler? How was your trip back north? ken

Its a good idea to hold the threaded part with an allan key whilst you loosen that nut, so as not to loosen the threaded part. The other threaded part on the adjuster is the one used to adjust the ride height up or down,,,this one pushes onto the alloy block,,, so you loosen all the locking nuts, then use an Allan Key to adjust the ride height up or down,,,, wind it out with the allan key to lower it or screw it in to raise it. When you get to the height your after, tighten up all the locking nuts. Hope that makes sense, I'm sure it could have been explained with fewer words, but its the best I can do at this time of morning..... Also we have a few word differences here in UK, so maybe an ''Alan Key'' is known as a ''George Key'' in USA and ''Alloy'' may have another meaning,,, who knows,,,, but I'm slowly picking up the USA terminologies from you guys!!.

I have the standard torsion tube adjusters welded in. With them, I just make sure I use a jack to raise or lower the front end to the approx height I want (prior to adjusting the adjusters) as this relieves the spring tension in the beam springs and I don't strip out the adjusters.
