Meyers Manx Forum launch, October?

Post by manxdavid »

It seems Meyers Manx are launching their own forum soon, I hope that plus the various FaceBook pages don't kill this one off altogether!

Meyers Manx Forum launch, October?

Post by Manx-Australia »

Hi David,

Thanks for the link, as the driving force behind this I can assure you Meyers Manx has no interest in replacing or replicating anything the Manx Club does.

The main aim behind the Meyers Manx Forum is to provide our current and future customers with as much info as possible on Meyers Manx Products and kits as well as a level of Tech Support not seen online in the buggy community previously. The team at Meyers Manx are working hard on also bringing togeather some of the best resources we can find and really focusing on making it as much of an organised repository as we possibly can.

Unlike a club forum and other buggy forums The Meyers Manx Forum is aiming at retaining as much organisation and fact as possible, we are not real big on the general chit chat and carry on. We will be well moderated and we will move any info posted which we view as benificial into refernce threads so it is eay to find, understand and reference, on the flip side if people post dribble and crapola it will be deleted and if they get out of line they will be moderated.

We currently have well over 1000 pictures and will be very focussed on increasing this even more, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

We welcome any feedback and suggestions people wish to offer, at the end of the day the purpose is to better support the buggy community so if there is a need for something there to assist in buggy bulding we will happily add it.

I hope you all enjoy the new forum and please feel free to let me know if anyone feels we are jumping on Manx Club Ground.

Who know if the Manx Club ever feels like getting out of this horrible yuku forum into a more main line 2phpbb setup we can happily provide free hosting and tech support, maybe even combine with the Australian Manx Club and have one Big, Active, reliable and well resourced online buggy community :)

Looks like there are areas for all of the Meyers products with the notable exception of the Resorter. Is it the orphan of the bunch? Just wondering.

That's great Joe ... However my question is in regards to the new "Meyers Manx Forum". In the past B&W have been guarded regarding the use of logos.

I belive this is the 'official' Meyers Manx forum being run on behalf of Bruce & Winnie. They're fully behind it. It's being run by Brad, the same guy who's running their Facebook page.

Thanks David I'm sure it took awhile to pull it together, I'm surprised the club didn't broad cast a heads up for the forum. I think its a great idea an am looking forward to having another source of historic and current information ...

That' s interesting ... It seems 2 me that the Clubs resources would be seen as a benefit to Bruce and Winnies goals and ambitions ... When we established this forum we build what was to be a one stop " Meyers 'Manx " contact place. This was understood and agreed by the founding Board of Directors for the Club that included Bruce & Winnie (B&W) ... Has this changed ??? Has B&W ever said they dislike the Clubs forum or have they  made suggestions to make improvements, that the club failed to address ??? What has changed and why ???

I care.

Joe, That's disappointing for sure. It couldn't be because the MC BOD has failed the keep the MMC informed as to their on-going goals and ambitions based upon the Clubs Bylaws when considering the two principals of the MMC still sit on the MC BOD . Perhaps it was an oversight, it's still sad that we (the Club) were not even approached with this concept when considering MMC reared this Club and Forum to provide MMCs  one stop shop. It seems we (the Club) are getting the short end of of this ... How is the MC BOD & MMC going to resolve the oversight ?

Meyers Manx Forum launch, October?

Hi Mark,

The Meyers Manx Forums belong to Meyers Manx. Inc., the company, who is not necessarily bound to follow our club's bylaws. They will always have the right to develop their personal website as they see fit. Just as you as an individual member have the right to develop the RBC site, Bill the DSB site, and I the Burro Buggy site.  If we're to be honest about our personal activities, those sites compete with the "one stop shop" concept and siphon visitors away from the Manx Club site as well.

Having said that, we are fortunate that Bruce and Winnie have no intention of competing for the Manx Club forum traffic. Their focus is a tightly defined forum that pushes more information out to the public than it brings in. The site will focus strictly on tech articles and build stories to fuel interest in building authentic Meyers Manx products. If you open each forum section, there are only three categories: build questions, tech articles, and builds.  The Meyers Manx Inc. site will not delve into the general interest and social sections that the Manx Club does . . . No event calendar, stories of past and future trips, impending government land closures and regulations, or general discussions about all things buggy.  The Manx Club site captures buggy culture and our sharing of human interaction. The Meyers Manx Inc. site provides DIY mechanical knowledge and a helpful guide on what to do when you don't understand how the parts go together.  Further, the Manx Club site is member-owned and encourages freedom of speech. I've never seen anyone banned from this site for voicing their opinion (okay, there is that one guy trying to rent a vacation house in Hawaii), but that may not be the case on a privately-held company site.   In my mind, having another buggy site will work out just fine. Any endeavor that increases awareness and involvement in our sport is good for the Manx Club. We will share links between the two to encourage cross-traffic, but the goals of these two websites are completely different from one another and will complement our sport.

Bruce has not sat on the Board of Directors for the Club, and after the upcoming election, Winnie will transition to the Director-Emeritus position as a trusted adviser to the Club.  To their credit, B&W DO take great consideration on how the Manx Club will be impacted by Meyers Manx Inc. They are only interested in documenting the building of buggies, primarily the current generations of kick outs and Manxter to motivate others to build their own.  They do not want to become the site for all things Manx. As current Club President, I appreciate their insight and experience that comes from being the founders of the original club.

Finally, one of the board-passed motions at MOTB was to invest  funds from our general fund to build an all encompassing, state-of-the art website from scratch.  We cannot exist in the Yuku world forever, and feel a vast improvement in redefining our cyberspace presence provides added value to every member, which is part of our charter. Stay tuned for some big improvements in our website, and the interface in which we post pictures and text.
