An American guy and a Japanese girl drive from Stockholm to Cape Town in an open buggy! This is greatest trip in a dune buggy I've ever heard of. You have to read all the reports. The section where he crosses illegally from Egypt to Sudan is unbelievable. He had to rebuild his engine 3 times and his transmission once. His frame busted in half twice. I?m glad I could entertain you a bit and remind you of some glory days. As you read we had considerable adventures in Egypt and only narrowly survived it! But looking back I would not trade a minute! I?m flattered if Bruce takes notice, but I have recently heard that my Buggy is just a Swedish Manx knock-off. I hope he is not offended. I had thought and hopped that she was a Manx. I didn?t even know they made fiberglass imitations of a fiberglass kit-car! Well, even if she is not pedigree she is mine and I love her. I am fairly sure ours is the most extensive expedition ever carried out in a Buggy. There are lots in Brazil, a few in Mexico, many in South Africa, and one or two have ventured into the Sahara, but I have never heard of one crossing all Africa. Not even the South African buggy nuts we met ever heard of anything near so extensive. I tried to get into Guinness but they only take ?first ever?, not ?first buggy ever?. But the film should immortalize the trip if I can sell it. We are actually considering driving back up the west side of the continent to Europe! BR/Tom Tom, I came across your webpage the other day and was blown away. I built a Meyers Manx with my father in 1968. In 1970 my dad was transferred to Cairo, Egypt. We took the Manx along and I drove it during my last year of High School and while I attended the American University in Cairo. The summer after I graduated from High School, a friend and I took it over to Greece and drove it all the way to Oslo and back. The description of your trip amazes me and also make me very nostalgic.
