for those that have used them what model SPOT GPS would be sufficient for C2C Safari?

I would suggest either the Spot Gen 1, or Gen 2.  Either one has been selling on e-bay for under $100.00.

The real expense with a SPOT is the annual fee  $164.00

However the nice thing is that you can use them anywhere. 

I usually download the data and then load as an overlay on Google earth, after doing an off-road run.

Mike, it appears that there are 3 or 4 SPOTs already available for C2C.
