Hey All;

   I'm having an addition added to my 2-car garage, finally. Just adding a 24' by 30' extension to the existing 24'x24' garage. More room for buggys. Had to pull in 200Amps of electrical service, hence the backyard is pretty tore up. Now the wife will have her garage for her crap (I mean stuff) and I'll have my addition for my stuff (she says crap). Should be done in a couple of weeks.

PS  you need much more rebar than what you are showing

You can never have too much room and too much crap, uh, er.. buggy stuff.

Rule of thumb is,,The shop should be 4 X the size of the house,,Are you putting in a lift ????

My brother is buying a house with a 42'x42' shop. It has an air-over-hydraulic lift in it already, so I'm not going to need one right off the bat. I'll have to get a picture of it and post it. I just got back from a two week trip, and the garage addition is coming along just fine. I think the contractor will have it done in a couple of more weeks. This is what it looks like today...

You mite think about putting in some sky lights,,The more light in the shop the better as you get older,,,Myself,, I am looking for my glasses and walking out side to see what the hell Im doing,, Just a though,,,

   Thanks for the tip on skylights, but because of the rain and snow (I've never seen a skylight that didn't leak after awhile) and the fact that I'm going to sheetrock the ceiling, I'm not having any installed. I'm going to put in bunches of lights (electricity is really, really cheap up here) so it's going to be super bright inside during the long dark cold months. Got my heater already to install.

I see that you have windows on the side of the garage to give you some daylight.
The windows in my sectional garage doors are helpful during the daylight hours.

 

                                                       I put in 1'X1' glass blocks in the wall to get more light in my Motorcycle shop,,Works great and you can't see in the shop from the out side,,

Thanks for the tip on the glass blocks. I might add some of those on the south wall (the current windows are on the west wall), but it will depend on where I'm going to put my cabinets. They are going to do the roof tomorrow, and the contractor is out there putting on the roll-up doors. It's getting close. We're going camping for a couple of days, so it will be interesting how much they will get done by thursday...

Hey All;



The new shop for all of the buggys is built. I now need to run air lines from the compressor to about 5 stations inside and outside the shop for air tools, tire things, sand blasting cabinet, and small paint booth. The compressor sits in the back of the shop, and all of the lines will be run behind sheetrock. What's the consensus on what piping I should use? Copper, black pipe, or schedule-40 plastic pipe?? What size??

Gary,,I would say !/2" copper is the way to go ,Don't forget water traps,,Blast cabinets are very messy ,,You mite think of putting some rollers on it and use it out side,,The fine dust well be all over your shop and toys,,,Been there,Done that,,, The same goes with buffing wheels,,,,
