Newbie Needs Help

Post by Gene-C »

Hi All, I just found this forum and it looks like I could get some really good advise here. I just picked up a Manx clone yesterday and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction where I can get tips installing the body. I currently have a full length pan which I will shorten but the body being a clone, how do I calculate how much to cut out of it? I am sure I will have quite a few more questions with my project, I just hope you guys can put up with me. Thanks, Steve

Steve, Welcome, first thing I would do is to measure from the outside edge of the front bulkhead (at the corners) to the outside edge of the rear corners and try to determine a basic length dimension of the pan mounting area of the F/G body. Then do the same to the stock length VW pan body mounting areas to see if it gives the differences in length. Measure numerous times and cut only as needed. It is easier to shorten metal a couple of times before welding than to add length after cutting. Try to find some one in your area that has done this before so that you can have help. Good luck. Bob
