Insurance

Post by Gene-C »

I'd appreciate any input I can get about insuring my Manx for the street. If you know any insurance company that handles this kind of car, I'd love to hear from you. My insurance agent seems to be stumped.

My Buggy is insured with AAA of So. Cal., but I also had an extended comp. coverage added to recoup the cost, if stolen. I took it in and they took several photos and I listed the after market parts costs to validate the extra value. :2cents: Jimbo

Farmers in Southern California. I went with Irma Huizing, who advertises in the Manx Mania newsletter (at least she used to). I just had to send in pictures of the buggy with and without the top and agree on a replacement value. I waived the Collision coverage because I will fix it myself if I pile it up. I tried to get my truck on the same policy, but they couldn't beat Met Life Auto, even with a multi-car discount! Met Life doesn't insure buggies or homes in CA, so I have to have three different insurance companies! :(

Farmers, for all three Buggies ... It's a stand alone policy.

I used to have Nationwide. I've switched to 21st Century though, not because of any problems just for a better price. Both insured my car as a dune buggy. :2cents: md

If you happen to be active or retired military then USAA (United Services Automobile Association in San Antonio, Texas will insure it --- no problem. I have my Manxter 2+2 insured through them on the same policy as all of my other vehicles. Manxter 2+2 is titled in Pennsylvania as a Speciality Reconstructed Vehicle.

I have USAA also. I just have liability on the buggy and it costs me about $20 a month.

State Farm on my original Manx. They have a collector car policy that doesn't have some of the restrictions that a lot of companies have. I think I pay about $9.00 a month for a $6500.00 stated value. That value isn't enough and the rate goes up as the value goes up. Good Luck.

My Mercury Ins. agent says he has a special rider just for buggies. I don't see any issue with my insurance.
