Hey all I just bought some new headers for the buggy, and they look sweet I havent ran them yet because I want to know if there is anything that you can do to keep them from turning blue. I have heard that you can take high heat exhaust paint and spray into the inside of the tubes at the heads and it will keep them from turning. I havent tried that yet I wanted to pop up on here and see what everyone else is trying. thanks for the help Jeremy Chattanooga, TN

You can try it all, but they will still turn color.I had a set of chrome header type pipes and my sweaty finger prints even burned into the chrome, after I installed them, I forgot to wipe them clean after installation. I solved the problem by buying a Jet Coated exhaust. solved all the problems, and you can get it re-coated when they show wear. Expensive experience. Jimbo

don't start the motor and the chrome will stay the same. Ceramic coat works well too, but is expensive.

Don't worry about the exhaust pipes turning blue. That shows that the engine is not running too lean and that the exhaust is not too hot. If the pipe goes straw coloured you are runnibg too lean and too hot. Remember the spectrum of colours. Red, orange, yellow, green. blue, indigo, violet, where red is hotter than violet. Where infrared radiation is hot and ultraviolet is not. So blue is nicely at the cooler end of the spectrum and straw (yellow) is too close to the hot end. Carefully wipe the pipes clean of all grease and fingerprints and watch the colour changes. It's an interesting exercise in feed back on your engine's state of tune. PS if you want the pipes to go really blue, wipe them down with engine oil. That's one of the old bikers tricks that they used to use to show how hot their Triumph Bonnevilles were. Blue that went half way along the pipes. Starting with a dark navy blue and fading to an light sky blue.

Great!! I just ordered my new Chrome exhaust last night. Guess I should have just painted my Black pipes Blue. Would waxing them after instaltion help or make it worst? Anyone have experiance with that?

Motorcycles now have Dualwall pipe...that's how they stay clean... The only way to keep them clean..is to run rich....showcars can live with this..but for actual driving..you're stuck...

I have heard of coating the inside of the pipes , but do not know of anyone who has tried it. One thing I do recomend is taking some time with a scotch brite wheel and doing a little pollishing before you send it out. The people who did my header did not even chip the factory dingle berries off. They did recomend some sort of "blue majic" wax to keep it from spotting. I never tried that , but I am careful not to spill stuff on it while hot, and have not had it on the beach yet.
