Hi, 40 Years ago I wanted to build a Manx Fiberglass Buggy. Finally I'm getting to that point of start. My first problem came with the 1974 Bug I bought. Question. What is the easyest way of seperating the VW from the floor pan. I seems like the heater duct is in the way to remove the bolts holding the upper part to the floor pan. Is there an easy way?? Removing the body from the pan is pretty easy. The quickest way is to use an impact if you don't mind the bolts breaking off into the body (which they will most of the time). Remove all the bolts from both undersides, one above each of the rear wheels, two under the fuel tank, and four under the rear seat. I believe that covers all of them? Don't forget to undo the steering column and any fuel lines or wires. You shouldn't have any problem getting to the bolts though. Good luck and keep us informed.

There are two bolts at the rear seat that are sometimes very hard to find - they look small, but will hold up the entire process untill unbolted. I found this out only after exhausting my entire German vocabulary. Then I read the book. Dune Buggies and Hot VWs has an ongoing article - in August it showed this process step by step.

Sometimes the jack points on the side are welded to both the body and the pan. Grind or sawsall them off, you won't need them anyways.
