Steering Box Help

Post by bountyhunterdm »

Although I'm not on the road yet, My box seems to have a little too much play in it. It looks like the adjustment screw is all the way down. Does this mean that it's toast. I guess I should go out and get a new one. Might as well everything else is new.

I had one one my sand buggy that was sloppy. I didn't think that it would make any difference with smooth tires, off road, etc. One day after it seemed "extra crunchy" I took it apart and it was filled with sand instead of oil. I never tried adjusting, I think the new used one was free. I don't think having it lock would have been worth saving any amount of money. At least make sure it has oil in it.

It should have a good amount of grease in it, not oil. The oil you found was really the grease broken down. Thus the play in the box. With the screw all the way down, means the adjustment is totally gone. Replace it and be safe.
