The January 2006 Dirtsports Magazine has a really nice article with nice photos about "Old Red" complete with the extra "fuel" tanks. There is a shot of Bruce building a car in his garage with a cool little Manx model on the shelf. Dirtsports is a really nice new offroad magazine that covers offroad racing and rock crawler competetions. I highly recommend it!! I have seen it popping up in Texas magazine stores recently. After I actually looked through the magazine there is also an article on one of the nicest Tow'ds I've seen. Mr. Meyers his-own-self is shown buzzing around Baja. Cool! I have no personal stake in this, but if you're into offorad racing and/or rock crawling at all this is a very nice magazine with very good photography.

I finally got a copy of the magazine. The Towd and Old Red articles were both excellent. The Towd was at Lone Pine. Its owned and restored by Siegfried Fiolka, a Manx club member from Quincy, CA. He's the father of the magazine editor. I saw one mistake in the Towd article. They were talking about the Tacoma wheels and Mickey Thompson tires. They said the front tires were made using the old Armstong Norseman molds but actually they are from the old Gates Commando's

Here is a picture I took of Siegfried's Tow'd at the Lone Pine run. Image It does have Gates Commando/Sandblaster style tires on the front. Image Image Checkout the Porsche distributor cap on the vintage Bosch 010 distributor. Siegfried worked for Bosch and accumulated some of the neat herd to find "Old School" parts. We had the honor of going on a run with Siegfried and his 4 or 5 year old grandson. It is easily the nicest Tow'd I have ever seen. The attention to detail is tremendous. I enjoyed just watching it drive down the road. I would bet it's probably the nicest Tow'd in exsistence. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to pick up a copy of the The "January 2006 Dirtsports Magazine" for me? I can't find it in the Chicago area. Naturally I would pay for it and the mailing fees. Let me know.

Bruce said the only thing wrong he could see with it was that the Towds were on backwards.

The Sept. '05 issue of DIRTSports has a nice review on the Manxter Dual Sport. I called DIRTSport and ordered that issue. Acccording to an ad within DS, if you go to http://www.dirtsportsmag.com there is supposed to be a complete listing of news stand locations that carry it. DS really is a very nice magazine and I don't even do any off-roading. Olli
