Clone with original badge
Clone with original badge
This is a friendly site. This is the first time I have felt ANY negativity at all. Keep your clone and your badges. Anyone who really cares about the origin of the fiberglass dunebuggy wouldnt be doing what you are doing. Atleast you admit your buggy isnt an authentic Manx. Out!
Manx copies don't bother me in the least, I am the only one in our group of 10 or 12 buggys that actually has a real Manx and I came across it by accident, I wasn't looking for a Manx. I am very much against a Manx Clone (Buggys made to look like a real Manx by adding Manx badging). The only reason someone would put Manx badging on a buggy is to pass it off as an original Manx. This practice will eventually affect the resale costs of an original Manx in an adverse way. Granted, In the grand scheme of things, it's not that big of a big deal.
I'm outta here guys!
Well I'm outta here - I always said that my buggy was "real" in my eyes and I admited that is i twas a so called clone with badges and all I did was offer some original bits to the guys I thought would want them most, its was everyone else that kept adding posts - I ment no harm nor offence. So I guess I'll catch you in another life guys - Have fun.
Hide yer emblems,.....N' yer wives!
I obviously missed the "juiciest ,meaty" part of this thread.apparently an "Unbuggy" was represented as a "Brucebuggy"? Here comes my stupid opinion......I think some people add Manx emblems to buggies for a few reasons. Some don't know better, some try to decieve and some got their buggies that way,(and still don't know better). As far as I am concearned it's far more insulting to those of us "in the know" to add a badge to a buggy that isn't even a decent clone,(either through quality or design).I have seen EVERYTHING under the sun claimed to be an actual "Meyers built manx".In some stories Bruce stayed up late on a saturday night, sampling & perfecting his own brand of tequilla,(while "pumpin out" tubs),in others he actually laid the "glass" in Egypt on a tour with the Beatles,.....you get the picture. Which reminds me of a totally unrelated topic but I can't help mentioning it. When "THE" manxter was offered on ebay and didn't sell there was a lot of talk here about taking up a collection and sending it to Bruce & Winney etc etc.Did anyone stop to consider that while it IS a "one of kind " essentially "prototype" car that maybe it wasn't being sold out of need? Everyone was quick to "chip-in" and to be fair,a few of you pointed out that you'd be first to contribute should there be a "recognized" need,(as would I).I just found it curious that everyone ASSUMED the car was being sold in a time of financial hardship.I own a lot of cool,(stock as well as custom/modified) cars,(as I know a lot of us do),and if I had to narrow the field below 8 for personal use I'd like to think people wouldn't assume I was somehow "Hurtin".There's only so much garage space.............Show a little respect.....! Glad the whole "RBC " hype has subsided. MCM 2501 "THICK",quality clone NEW genuine badge owner that has them on the shelf, not the car...
A local guy used to run around with a homemade 'MANX' rear sticker-emblem on his buggy(Sears Rascal, I believe), patterned after the angled font of the original Manx rear emblem. I finally met up with him at a local cruise-in, where we both had our buggies. I give him a lot of points for actually telling people that his buggy wasn't a real Manx, and he has done a good job of telling anyone who asked the real history of fiberglass dune buggies. He used to argue that the phony emblem was justified because "it's pretty much a Manx." After hanging out together that one night and comparing buggies, he removed it. There's no animosity between us over it either; I actually dig how much he drives his buggy - all summer, rain or shine.
Its just this easy....................... 1. I have a original Manx. 2. I have a modified Manx. 3. I have a close to original Manx. 4. I have a clone. :laugh1: Personally I have a Dune Buggy, not really even sure what it is however at the local car shows it gets ALL the attention and my kids think it..... !!! I say we all owe Bruce a HUGE thanks for creating a concept we can all enjoy. :driving: My :2cents:
Manxes, Minxes, Mooses & Mices Etc., Etc.
The single most important fact is... It doesn't matter what brand of F/G body you have on your VW or custom pan/chassis... you can have just as much "FUN, FUN, FUN" in one as you can have in the other!!! Some folks want to own an original Meyers Manx & the reasons for doing so are too numerous to post! Some folks don't care if their Buggy is a Manx, Minx, Moose or a Mouse, they just want to enjoy it!!! IMHO... a non-Meyers Manx with a Manx ID tags is wrong, plain & simple!!! The whole "dunebuggy" idea is to... HAVE FUN, FUN, FUN... ManxManiac "Nuff said!"

I don't know monkiboy personally, nor have i seen his buggy. But i do know Bruce, as he gave me the opportunity to make authentic Meyers models here in UK. Due to situations beyond my control, production had to cease,,, I no longer own the moulds, or produce the the Meyers Manx. So if it hasn't got the tag, or been authenticated by Bruce then it should not wear the badge. We all make mistakes, and say & do things that we later regret,, ive done more than my share. My guess is that monkiboy is a young guy, who is passionate about the nostalgic buggy scene,, he obviously felt the need to fit the Meyers badges to complete the look. I agree that what he did was wrong,, especially as it was said that Bruce liked it when it was put up for BOM, i take it this was pictured with badges fitted. Bruce is the TOP OF THE TREE as far as nice guys go, and doesn't deserve to be cheated in this way. My advice to monkiboy would be to remove the badges, and admit it was all an innocent mistake, and not intended to offend, which i hope was the case,,,,,i can forgive and forget,, so lets say we move on Before this thing turns into a novel,,,,,,,, ive heard that a UK guy is making fake Meyers Manx badges and selling them to Manx type owners. As soon as i find out who, that person is, and, or, the buggies that sport them, they will be named and shamed on here, with no forgivenss.
sorry guys
I do admit it - this was all an honest mistake I never ment to cause any offence to anyone at any time. Some of my post my have been worded wrongly - and yes it was wrong to say "Bruce liked it" all I ment by that was it had been acepted for the comp which made me very happy and still does. This has all got way too heavy and that seems to be my fault so I am sorry guys:o Also any items I have put up for sale have been genuine so no need to worry on that score. I'm outta here :hello:

My own buggy is a bitsa, all made up with bits of this n bits of that,,, its got a badge that says, SURF CHICK wish she was for real. For some reason i forgot to make myself a MM Owned since 97, i just cant part with her, but i did promise a makeover and a new heart for next year,, Bruce liked her too when he came to UK
Yet another opinion. I'm like mvovr, I have a "buggy" and have had several different "buggies" , none of which were a manx. This did not use to be such a big deal, but lately the manx chest beaters have been getting louder. Right now I have a honest to god manx knock off that I am selling. I never have said it is a manx, and named it Nada- cause its nada manx! I always wanted a real manx but I have decided to not build this one and not worry aboutwhether I ever get one. Why? Because of #$%@ like this thread. I can modify my buggy as I like without getting the " How could you do that to a classic crap" that seems to be more prevalent these days. Alot of folks here are getting as bad as the other fiberglass groupies,(vettes), with their "I have a MANX!" attitudes. Can you imagine the flack if someone exstensive modified a true manx? Sacriledge! Ya'll need to chill out. Even Bruce (who I have met and admire) likes alot of the clones. If it's not a manx, don't say it is, but remember all buggies are just VW kit cars, not a Porsche or Rolls. Kevin #893
