Fuel line

Hi all, I installed new Gates rubber fuel hoses on my engine this past summer and noticed that the outer layer is starting to crack. All the hose ends near the clamps are beginning to expose the cloth layer between the cracks. This is the reason why I replaced them in July. I was going to install steel braided fuel lines to match the breather hoses but could not find the fittings that would adapt the stock VW fuel pump to the AN hose ends. I don't want to use an electric pump. Is there a way to connect those anodised fittings to the stock fuel pump? While on fuel lines; The trend is to install larger diameter steel tubing during the floorpan construction. I used 5/16" steel tubing on mine. Yet with all this "bigger is better" idealism...the line gets bottle-necked at the fuel pump with its 5/32" openings. Hmm. Go figure.
