After some shopping for a suitable trailer for my car, I have decided to fab up one myself. I have an idea of how I am going to build it but wanted to see what you guys already have. Maybe with some pics I can get more ideas. Any words of wisdom? What would you do if you were going to have one built???

whats the reason for the trailer? i just have a towbar and it has worked out well. and you can't beat it for the price ($50 new). i've been between west virginia and pennsylvania and plan on going from pa to the outer banks that way this summer. is that not a good idea?

I am planning on going to the TEXAS BUGGY BLAST in June. Five hundred fifty miles one way is a long way for a madien journey. Right???? Don't get me wrong my car will be driven almost everywhere. I installed a 3.88 tranny and have small cam just for that reason. I have collecting parts for this project for four years, trust me when it is done it will be driven and HARD. MURZ

There are enough guys on this side to pull off a meet and the Outer banks would be THE place in my book. We just can't tell them we are coming. The chamber of commerce told me no thanks when I emailed them 2 years ago about trying to get about 25 dune buggies together down there. This time we are just a car club. :driving: Anyone else interested???? John

I know guy who makes really nice piggy-back racks for truck beds that easily hold a buggy (he carted mine 1800 miles without issue). ... but uhh... a car is something completely different. I'm of no use to you. ;)

This would make more work for actually hauling a car but it is something to think about......What if you just built a dolly trailer to just drive the front wheels up on like a uhaul, then you could just take your axles loose when going on a long trip, or just leave it in neutral if you dare.....It would cut cost of building supplies down and would be easier to build. Just a thought.

If you build your own trailer, spend the extra money for a new axel with brakes. With a tow bar all you have is 1,500 pounds trying to "ass-steer " your tow vehicle when you slam on the brakes. I have had too many white knuckle rides towing without brakes. Another advantage to a trailer is that you can drive your buggy like a lunatic and not worry about how to get it home when you break or bend a trailing arm, or snap off something important while doing a Duke Boy jump..YeeeeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!!

I have a truck to tow it with. Jeremy, I thought of a dolly too, but at some point I may go back to swing axle to loose the wide track look. I don't want to be goofing off 200 miles from home and break an axle or tranny. Been there, done that. MURZ

Just a thought. I have a Manx. I bought it out of someones yard. I took it home in the back of a full sized (Ford) pickup truck. I fit just fine. 2 guys pushed it up 2' X 10" planks. The only hard part was lifting the front wheels over the 'hump' for the rear truck tires....
