Timing question...

...ok I've heard a few different degrees to set you timing at now. What is correct? I have a 1970 1641 w/ dual kadron's, a 009, 1:25 rocker arms, deep sump, and a tri-mil exhaust, all stock internals, everything is just bolt on...first question is - when and does the timing change from a bone stock engine? Second question is - what do I set it at? I have it set at 12.5% and 30% at full advance for now... Thanks, Marcus

It is the same for all VW engines for the most part. 10* btdc it idle some people like to set it at 32* at BTDC at 3000 RPM My 2275cc is set 10* at idle. you can go more... but that will increase the total advance , and to far can cause detonation. BAD. If you add a turbo then 24* total is all you can go.

You should be safe if you set it at 28 deg BTDC @3000 RPM. It would be nice to know what the compression ratio is. If you notice any spark knock or excessive head temperature, back the timing down a couple degrees.
Thanks
