Stock 1600 Dual Port VW engine with SVDA distributor:
http://aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproduc ... 01&cartid= Universal CDI module:
http://universal-co.com/index.aspx The CDI module is triggered by a Compufire Points Replacement Module:
http://aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproduc ... 01&cartid= This setup provides 50,000 volts throughout the entire RPM range. If the CDI module goes out, reversing a plug puts you back to stock ignition. If something else goes wrong, pull out the distrubutor, put the spare distributor in, drive on. Figure it out later. No modern car has this kind of redundancy.

Are you having problems with the Magneto? If not I would keep it. It's a neat old school piece that is hard to beat as far as spark intensity.

Jerry, i'm not having any problems at this time but i've heard parts are expensive and not readilly available so i thought i could get something a little more generic. it came with the car and since i'm also changing instruments i wouldn't need the signal converter ( if thats what it's called ) for the tach. Thanks Dale
