My insurance company (State Farm) says that they will not insure the kit until it is road worthy and can be added to my auto policy as a recreational vehicle. What should I do for insurance during the duration of construction?

Try another company. I have Safeco. My agent told me that homeowners will not cover "anything with wheels"...They did write a policy on my sand buggy. If an insurance company can weasle out of paying a claim they will. Just look at all those people in the Gulf Coast living on the remains of their house waiting for a FEMA trailer.
