I aquired a 71 super beetle for the great price of FREE, so since i can't use the front end does anyone have any info on where to cut the pan so i can put a link/king pin head and beam on it. any pics or links or personal knowledge would be appreciated thanks

If you're shortening the pan to suit a Manx type Buggy best cutting behind the handbrake as usual and grafting the rear section of the Super chassis to the tunnel/ front secion of a ling/linkpin frame. Probably be easier to use new floorpans cut down to suit.

Sorry David, i didn't give enough info, here's what i'm planning. i'm going to build a long pan buggy, no shortening it 14", it has irs rear end and i just want to cut off the front strut suspension and install a link pin head and beam. Thanks for the input.

I have made my new buggy on a 71 super bug pan which was also free. It can be shortened just like an earlier pan and the front clip conversion isn't that hard. It's just the same as relacing a front clip on an earlier pan. Here's a pic of mine shortened 14 and a bit inches with a link pin front clip.Not the best pic but you get the idea. The pic underneath is how it all started.

Your best bet is to buy the replacement frame head first, then it will be somewhat obvious where the cut needs to be. I'm getting ready to do the same thing with a Super Beetle frame.

You sure do. You should find that the tunnel of the super bug is slightly larger than the early frame head allowing the frame head to neatly slide into the tunnel. That's how mine fitted. If the metal can overlap like that you can get a much stronger weld.
