So what would need to happen to get an east coast meet scheduled for 2011? Maybe somewhere in the middle of the east coast like NC or Tenn over Labor Day weekend? Would there even be any interest in getting something organized? Thoughts from the club's high mucky-mucks?
You guys and gals on the west coast seem to have all the fun, we want to play too. (Plus it would give me a deadline for finishing my buggy )
Louis,
The High Mucky-Mucks discussed this in Mammoth and have decided to allow the East Coast Mucky-Mucks to have an event.
The Honorable East Coast Mucky-Muck Tom Iocaboni will be making an announcement soon.
Respectfully,
High Mucky-Muck Event Chair

Well, if you want to insure a successful event (like a LOT of buggys), you need to invite Bruce and Winnie, pay all of their expenses, and have one of their buggys shipped to the event (and back). Folks will probably come from everywhere east of the Mississippi (and a few from the west side too). Have it at one of the great parks that are out there (I like Edisto Beach in SC, but there are some great mountains out there too). Plan three runs (mudding is fun), a donut and coffee each morning, and maybe a cheap meal (beans and cornbread or such (buggy folks will eat anything)). Will drinking be allowed? Maybe throw in some raffle prizes. Make sure it's before the heat and humidity sets in (folks get spoiled by the dry hot are on the West coast) like around early spring and after early fall, not during hurricane season). Oh, and make it cheap. Remember, this is all tongue-in-cheek (but then again, it just might work). We took out buggys all over the east coast in the 70s. It can be fun back there...

I was kind of thinking of something along the lines of a Fall Foliage Tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I don't know that area enough to to know what off road possibilities are there but it would be cool to have as well. Not sure something could be organized by spring but fall should be doable. I will be happy to volunteer to help out.
I have hiked the head of the trail on day trips before during that time of the year and it is really beautiful. I think driving an open buggy on the Parkway would be killer with the panoramic views you get. There are several camp grounds and Mt. Mitchell is in the area as well. Mt. Mitchell is the highest peak on the east coast. We went there in February one time and the temp at the top was a balmy -24 degs f. I wish I could remember the name but there is a really nice camp ground with a waterfall right in the park not far from there as well.
Here is a pick of Mt. Michell from the Parkway:
Pretty much the whole Parkway has scenes like that.
