New Manx Club - Time for an update?
It has been almost 4 months since Winnie's posting that summarized the ongoing process of transitioning the management of the Manx Club from Bruce and herself to other members within the club. In that posting she mentioned that a steering committee had been formed (a list of the members involved has not been officially released, at least not to my knowledge) and that they were currently involved in helping work out details in addressing various issues raised here on this forum. My annual membership fee is going to be due very soon, and it would be great to get an update on this transition, so that I can feel confident that my dues will not just be subsidizing this website and events in southern California.

Similar thoughts running thru my mind.... Mine was due in February, so I paid "one more time' & added a request for the $3 listing of current members in my area, just is case.....it would be nice to have for future reference. To the NC guys, the list sent to me covers GA/SC but not NC. You guys are actually closer than most of the GA members, so it would be nice to have your list as well....just to maybe be a part of a gathering one day....if you don't mind sharing, send me a Private Message (PM). I enjoyed the connection to club members while restoring my '63 buggy; got a lot of good advice & met a member in SC that's now a friend. Hopefully, the club's not dead yet.... Thanks. Oh yeah - - - Bud, love the "Bueller?" comment, have not heard that one in a while. My 4 & 8-year old look at me funny when I use it on them...
Hi guys. Thanks for asking. The board here has been so quiet I haven't checked it as often as I should have. There hasn't been too much to report. We have been sitting on our hands most of these months waiting for the legal review to get done. The problem was we needed about $5000 to complete the legal-eze stuff to date. None of us are comfortable asking for money. So we took the slow route. Pro bono legal help was offered and graciously accepted, but when legal work is done free it gets relegated to the "when I have nothing else to do" stack of stuff at the law office. In other words lack of funds slowed the process down considerably. Others of us have been springing for items out of pocket. The deposit for the Big Bear Bash was paid. Insurance has been lined up but we have no legal entity to to attack it to. So that is on hold pending incorporation. In the past few days several came forward with offers totaling over $2000 to proceed and get us off center. Many thanks to those who contributed! Your generosity and commitment is appreciated. Here is a closer look at the details. When by-law work was submitted for legal review the Attorney suggested going a better direction for non-profit incorporation status. That meant a re-write of some of the items to have them comply with that type of non-profit. Then a review for accuracy. Presently the by-laws are finished. The Attorney has signed off on them. We think we have approximately enough $$ in hand to complete the process as long as we have no surprises. Next we need to submit a letter of intent for incorporation to the State. That should happen shortly. The State then gets back to us and we can submit to the Attorney General's office for incorporation. The AG is said to take approximately two to three months to issue incorporation. Once they do the new MC will be a legal entity. The final step will be to take the incorporation, along with a proposed budget, and submit it to the Fed and State tax authorities for non-profit status. Once that is complete we will be done. I don't think any of us realized this was going to be such a long and sometimes frustrating road. Some of what we face in the future: Meyers Manx Inc and the forum are both run off the same ISP number. Winnie desires a complete break with Meyers Manx Inc. which means we cannot be attached to their ISP. Ray, the new webmaster, who brings his skills to the new manx club from the international side of the old MC, is working on a way to try to move the forum. If he can't come up with a solution we may need to initialize a whole new forum. Time will tell on that issue. mel
Hello Mel, I also want to thank you for an update on the ongoing legal status of the new club, but I was also expecting an update from the steering committe to include a working outline of how the new club may be structured, and ways that it may be equally represented on a national or international level. Your update includes the statement "In other words lack of funds slowed the process down considerably. Others of us have been springing for items out of pocket. The deposit for the Big Bear Bash was paid." That would lead me to believe that the current "Manx Club" is no longer sponsoring that, or other events. Other than this online forum, what is the current status of the "Manx Club" as we know it? Who is currently receiving and depositing dues from new members and those that choose to renew their status? I, for one, would greatly appreciate a more thorough update (even if it is in somewhat of a summary form) listing "goals" of this new club being formed. Does it plan to promote events nationally and internationally? Is the idea of creating "chapters" a possibility? Will it have it's own online store to merchandize the new club's apparel? If this new club will be a completely separate entity from Meyers Manx Inc, is it even necessary to include the word "Manx" in the club name or charter? I am personally not privy to the percent of members that own fiberglass-bodied dune buggies that are not of the Meyers Manx brand, but I would imagine that the number is significant. Mel, I will be the first to admit that I can't really comprehend the depths that the steering committe has to go through as this new club attempts to stand on it's own (it would be nice to know who the steering committe IS), and I do admire you for your efforts. Am I the only one that would like a more substantial update?
