Carb help

I have the dreaded 30PICT carb/009 dizzy on my 1600dp. I bought a rebuilt 34PICT, installed it. It flooded after warm up. I pulled the top off, removed, cleaned and reinstalled the needle/seat unit. Does't flood now, but won't idle. It'll run for about 30 seconds, then looses rpm's and dies. I've messed around with the large and small screws on the left side of the carb as I do know what they do and why. The buggy ran fine with the 30PICT. I want the 34PICT/SVDA dizzy set-up. All suggestions appreciated. I'm going to check out vacuum leaks, but, you'd think I would have problems with the old set-up. I haven't installed my new SDVA distributor yet. Need to make a new metal vacuum line for it.

The 30 PICT carb works better with the 009 distributor than using the 34 PICT carb. On your 34 PICT carb the large cutoff valve below the fuel/air screws, is it working? With key on and removing wire to it do you hear it clicking? If not sometimes you have to adjust the plunger. Remove it and pry out the plunger on the stem. I use needle nose pliers so as not to bend the stem. Another thing to look at is the idle jet on the right side of the carb for being blocked. It is under the automatic choke. Just a couple of reason why it would die.

The 34 PICT carb is a bear to tune. Make sure the carb is in good working condition, You also have to make sure the engine is properly timed, dwell adjusted and the valves adjusted before attempting it. Sit down with the manual, read the carb tuning section until you think you understand it, then patiently tune away. The last one took me about 1 1/2 hours to get it to run correctly.

Thanks, all. Looks like I've got alot more to do, huh? I drove it today, just to see how it would react. At each stop, it didn't want to idle down. Once I got to the parking lot, I adjusted it a bit further, but still idles a bit high. Valves do need ran and I haven't checked the timing. Seems as though I may have a combo of things going at the same time. Oh, well, that's the fun of a buggy build, I guess.

Check the plugs and sandblast them you might have fouled one ?
