So for the first time in awhile I'm not going to Glamis for New years and I am going to go with a group to Ransburg. I have never been before and it isn't that far from my house but just wondering if anyone had any experience with that place?? I'm going with a group of rhino's and my manx and a buggy so I hope it is Buggy worthy?? Have a great night all

You will enjoy the place. It's and old simi ghost town with a saloon that serves decent food and cold beer. Across the street there is an old drugs store with a real old soda fountain. Lot's of dirt bike riders go there. There are also many, many trails to take. A great place to buggy around. Try Dove Springs and Burro Schmidts tunnel in the Last Chance Canyon area. Stop at the Ranger Station in Jawbone and get a OHV map. Bob

Randsburg itself is a fun little town, with some real interesting local sights. The saloon has great hot coffee/hot chocolate, ice cold beverages & great hamburgers/fries! Lots of little nooks & crannies to explore. Most of it is private property, so be careful where you park or walk. North of Randsburg a few miles is the Spangler Hills Open Area & it has a ton of trails. Just east of it several miles are the Trona Pinnacles. The area that is west & slightly south of Randsburg is mostly for motorcycles & ATVs, though there are a number of trails for buggys, Jeeps etc. On the north side of the Red Rock/Garlock Road that runs from Hwy 14 to Hwy 395/Randsburg, there are a multitude of trails, though I believe your vehicle must be street legal to drive on them. Back towards Hwy 14 is Red Rock Canyon State Park & there you'll find Last Chance Canyon & a bunch of old mines & such, plus a few old camps. Between Red Rock Canyon & Hwy 395 you'll find Burro Schmidt's Tunnel & lots of trails of a varying dgree, nothing too crazy though. Jawbone Canyon is on Hwy 14 just south of the Red Rock/Garlock Road. Entrance to Dove Springs is north of there about 5 miles or so off the west side of Hwy 14. The Jawbone Station sells a great map of the whole area that shows the trails & sights. It is definately worth buying one. There are tons of trails all over out there & plenty of FUN FUN FUN to be had! My North of Mojave Adventure is held out there & we camp at Dove Springs.

Not much to add to what has already been said. Red Rock canyon area is spectacular. If you like old mines the Randsburg area is pocked with them. A huge tailing pile west of town. The El Paso mountains area is full of dirt roads. That area was volcanic so pumice (dutch cleanser mine) and opal mines can be found out there. Also summit diggings where people lived in dugouts in the side of cliffs east of 395.

You can drive from Randsburg to Barstow without ever touching pavement if you are so inclined. I have done this several times, most recently earlier this year: http://dsb.yuku.com/topic/2337/t/Trona- ... -2009.html There's enough out there to keep you busy for years!
