As I restore my 68 Manx I have found slight differences in a few parts and was wondering if anyone can tell me a little about the Manx Header and Glasspack exhaust. I have a Manx catalog from 69 and it shows the same exhaust as mine but the two differences I can see are that the two "J" pipes on the catalog version and the one I found on the samba both have a smooth radious. Mine has two bends in the "J" pipe (like a t3 jpipe). My question is, did the exhaust change over the years and roughly when? Mine is a small 1 3/8 diam pipe and also has a short glasspack. Original Sidewinders did not have bolt on mufflers or sharp bends in the J tube. Neither pictured are are original (pre-1971) B.F. Meyers & Co. Sidewinders. The top picture appears to be a new Meyers Manx Inc. exhaust. The bottom exhaust was made by someones else. B.F. Meyers & Co. produced different Sidewinders for 36hp engines, 40/50hp engines and Porsche 356 engines. B.F. Meyers & Co. went out of business in 1971. The biggest change in Sidewinders occured when Meyers Manx Inc. started producing new Sidewinders in the late 90s. Since then there have different suppliers with a variety of detail differences and some with removable mufflers. Other companies also produced "sidewinder style" exhausts. Tri-Mil still does

I've got old magazine ads from '69 showing a system identical to the one in the samba picture made by Mitchell Mfg Inc. of Alhambra Ca. I'm not sure if they maybe supplied Meyers Manx and sold under their own name too or wether they just made a very similar system.
