Hey All; We think we have a 1776 engine. We're going to tear it apart (cracked case) and throw another case at it. Does a 1776 require any machine work on the case or heads for the larger barrels? We're going to get a 1600dp shortblock today and would just like to transfer everything from the barrels on up from the old engine over to the new case.

The case will have to be opened up for the larger 90.5mm cylinders. The stock cylinder heads will have to be opened up too. Other than that, everything else should be the same.

Hey Maniac; Thanks for the info. Looks like we will have to find someplace up here that can machine the case.

One more thing, what are the differences between the T-1 case and the t-3 case? Can I use a t-3 case and swap everything over if I can get one for nothing??

Sure, they're the same castings, the only significant difference being T3 cases aren't drilled for a dipstick. You can get an adapter from all the usual suppliers though... Image
