Roof Latching

Post by manxvair »

I'm looking for some ideas to improve the roof latching system, I know there are some out there that have added a more positive latch set up with cables. I'm getting it ready to drive to St. Louis and don't want to worry about the winds going across Kansas.

Put a surfboard on it. We don't even have to latch the roof at all! LOL Tom

Got this latch system from McMaster Carr catalog. Not cheap but works very well. On page 2939

I am also using the McMaster Carr latch. It works very well giving the top a positive hold.

Mine is the 2' the manxter looks like 3'. I drilled a hole in the top bars but there is a stainless bracket which comes with the latch

I think mine are the 3' cables. I used a billet brake line clamp to bolt to the roll cage and just drilled it out to the diameter needed for the latch. The clamp allows for adjustment, but I did add a setscrew to help hold it in place. With the top bouncing around they tended to move a little. I also added some nylon bushing in the hole to quiet the rattles a little. With the rubber pads between the top and cage and the solid latch, my top is solid and quiet.

Home Depot - They are furniture feet pads or something like that. They are self adhesive and I just stacked a couple together to get the desired height.

I also put a little clear 3m tape on the roll cage where the pads sit to keep it from rubbing the paint off.
