Facebook Moab Event Discussion

There is a lot of "scattered social chat" on Facebook about a possible MC event in 2017 at Moab UT. Clearly Moab is an awesome place for both off-road and street events. It’s been more than 10 years since Ken Tonga (RIP) & Wild Bill Loftin invited us to join their off road holiday at Moab. We spent a week that time. We now enjoy 2 weeks or more there every year or so.
We try to pick a time when there's not other events happening primarily because the place can get small and areas get really jammed up. The National Parks now have a permit program and enforce strict limits on numbers participants on all trails. Carol & I also enjoy exploring the extensive BLM lands surrounding the National Parks.
Connie and Bob are experts at working logistics... I think a coordinated effort with the "Moab Planning Calendar" folks we could find a week that would work.
A group of like minded buggy folks (most MC members) have been posting their Buggy adventures and outings or holidays to RBCDunebuggy.org, Trip Tails section <
http://rbcdunebuggy.yuku.com/forums/9/Trip-Tales>.There U'll find volumes of Outing Descriptions. A lot of the older postings have had their pics deleted but the text holds tons interesting info. Below are a few post pertaining to Moab Outings. You’ll see more Moab postings as you explore

Moab could be a Memorable MC event. Let's move Facebook dialog to this Manx Club site.

Moab Event interest for 2017

On Facebook, (which sucks for finding something that was posted a few days later), Paul Mabin started a post asking if there was interest in a Moab UT event in the future.
It is too late to plan an event for this year other than some that go there as groups together or at different times.
Looking for input on a possible event for 2017. Maybe someone close who knows a few trails, mild, moderate, experienced that can set up leaders for them to take small groups with them, (under 30 buggy's for safety and keeping track of all buggy's). Set up a host hotel or two. Maybe plan a dinner at a local eatery like the Moab Brewery.
There are several from the East US that have spoken intent to travel 3 and 4 days each way to an event at Moab.
Any Thoughts, input, some one(s) that can step forward to start an official event?

that's a scary looking bunch.
Mark Bryant #1856 also started a post on this forum, to help keep our ideas together. You are both correct, the turn over rate causes us to lose track of posts.

I'm thinking this could easily become a nice 2017 inaugural moab event.

I'll merge both topics for convenience.

Not sure if this facebook permalink will remain available but I'll leave it here for reference. As suggested earlier, please continue to update this topic to ensure we keep historical account of the conversation.

Thanks Vincent! I was going to ask to merge my post with the other, I did not see another Moab topic when I posted this one.
Be cool to see this come about. Looks like we have a lack of events in the June and August areas during the buggy season.
Maybe one day, make a run to 4 Corners for the more street buggy's. That would be a nice day cruise through 4 states and come back through CO and the edge of the Rockies making a loop out of it.

I feel like this is a definite "Plan it and they will come" kind of event. When I trailered my kit back to the east coast, we went through Moab and ate at the Moab Diner. It was an amazing place (the diner was nice too), there are so many parks and amazing views.
I will be using this 2017 event as a goal to make in Manxter #160. It actually has me rethinking my suspension a little to not make it just a street rod as originally intended. Light trail capable is looking better and better
The only stop we made was at Dead Horse National Park and it was AMAZING! Right on the rim on the Grand Canyon and I was envious of the people on the trails below.

Actually, Dead Horse is a State Park, not a national park, and is is about 220 miles, as the crow flys, Northeast of the Grand Canyon.

If the club does make Moab an event in 2017 I'll just have to be there....

Cool Bob!
I don't know if it will be an official event or not, but I believe I will be going there in '17. And most likely a bunch of other East US/Canada buggy's.

I know we are liking the idea of a Moab trip! The route Joe has discussed would be awesome and perhaps Mesa Verde could be on the agenda? Just no Chinese in Page!!

This would be awesome! I'll be living in Colorado by then... maybe the buggy will be done too?
