It is with great disappointment that we must announce the Manx Club’s 2020 Manxes in Mammoth event scheduled for September 18-21, is Officially CANCELED. The current resurgence of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has California again under Executive Order & Public Health Order restrictions where public gatherings at this time are not allowed. The Manx Club, in hosting the Mammoth event must adhere to these restrictions. The event coordinators have been in contact with our event Insurance carrier and have been advised that even IF public gatherings were to be allowed, We would still be required to submit operational plans and would be required to follow a strict list of COVID-19 precautions. Mammoth Mountain RV park our host location, also has restrictions they must adhere to. All of the group areas are closed at this time (clubhouse, pool/spa, playground).

The restrooms and laundry are open. 1 Family per campsite. Masks are required inside buildings and when around other campers not part of your campsite. Picnic tables have been removed from all campsites this summer, so guests will need to bring their own.

The Manx Club is a family style membership of individuals that love the buggy lifestyle. Everyone’s health & safety is of the utmost importance to us. We have a large number of members, including Winnie & Bruce that are in a high risk category and are not comfortable participating in group gatherings at this time. We do not want to leave anybody out or make anyone feel uncomfortable.

Please remember if you have made lodging arrangements it is up to you to make any necessary changes.

1. As for cancellations, they have decided to waive all fees this year.
So if guests decide to cancel on their own or you as a group cancel, there will be no fees for that.
In addition, we are offering guests that need to cancel the chance to move their reservation to the following year. Tentatively scheduled for September 16-19, 2021
If you have a site locked in for this year, you can lock in the same site. (You can't change sites yet to be fair to the person who had the other site, we will give them a chance at that site first).

2. If people in your group decide to come on their own, we will welcome them. And we will still offer the 10% group discount. There will be no change to their rates. We are open (and if that changes, we will contact each guest with a reservation).

For anyone with plans to travel to Mammoth Lakes, the Emergency Forest Closure---resulting from the devastating wildfires we're seeing throughout California and the lack of fire service resources able to respond---will be in place until September 14th, and possibly longer. Please respect the order and reconsider traveling to the Eastern Sierra.

Here's some information on forest closure activity around Mammoth, via Cleland Hoff, Town Council Member of Town of Mammoth Lakes, CA:

Please continue to be patient and understanding, and realize this closure is just one piece of a much bigger, critical effort to protect life and property in the state. Let's do our part. Please also take care of your health and stay indoors during these periods of extremely bad air quality. Here's the update:

National Forest Closure applies to all campgrounds, day use areas, trails, resorts, marinas, recreation residences, and dispersed camping. Owners and their employees, and campground hosts can stay to maintain security at their facilities. However, they should be ready to leave at a moment’s notice and have secure communications so that they are aware of any evacuation notices. Old Mammoth road will be closed top and bottom, and Lake Mary road will be closed at the Twin Lakes dam. Reds Meadow road will be closed. The Lakes Basin Bike Path will be closed. Shady Rest Park will be closed as will trails and trail heads including restroom and trash services.

The Forest Order is effective as of 5:00pm Monday, September 7th. The Mammoth/Mono Ranger District is coordinating notification and order for campers and others to leave the Inyo National Forest Lands with a request for people to safely travel home. The District staff is working to notify campers (in campgrounds or dispersed campers), day use individuals, etc. to be out by noon on Tuesday, September 8th at the latest. The initial focus is on the Lakes Basin, Reds Meadow, June Lake Beach, Lee Vining Canyon and other higher use recreation areas. This includes Mammoth Mountain. District staff recognize that more time may be needed given the size of the Inyo National Forest and staffing limitations to reach all areas where people may be recreating. Backcountry hikers will be accommodated as they return to or exit at one of the recreational sites. Where available forest service gates will be closed to prevent people from entering closed areas, such as the Lakes Basin and Reds Meadow.

The Forest Order specifically prohibits the following acts or activities:
Going into or being upon National Forest System lands within the National Forests; and
Being on a National Forest System road within the National Forests; and
Being on a National Forest System trail within the National Forests; and
Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire; and
Smoking, on the Forests listed below:

Inyo National Forest
Sierra National Forest
Sequoia National Forest
Stanislaus National Forest
Los Padres National Forest
Angeles National Forest
San Bernardino National Forest
Cleveland National Forest

The forest orders allow for a narrow set of specific authorized activities to continue. The Forest Orders are in place at least, through September 14th. These Orders will protect natural resources and provide for the safety of forest visitors by preventing them from getting trapped on National Forest System lands during emergency circumstances. California is experiencing an unprecedented and dire fire season. There are 18 National Forests in California, totaling approximately 20 million acres. Currently, 13 of 18 National Forests in the Pacific Southwest Region in California have large fires. Extreme weather conditions have made this situation significantly worse this year. Record high temperatures, unprecedented dry lightning events, and multiple heatwaves across the state have made conditions extremely dry and susceptible to fire ignition. For locals and visitors to Mammoth Lakes and Mono County, these Orders will significantly impact local activities as any activity such as, hiking, walking, biking, fishing, picnicking, or other passive or active recreational activities on Forest Service lands is prohibited.
