Shifter Shaft--Rod

Post by L0084MC »

Some call it shifter shaft and some shifter rod. Mine is from a 63 shortened chassis and the shaft looks to be the original. It has been cut off or shortened with the tapered end then welded back on. After all the talk about the shaft and bushing lately I decided to check it before I assemble anything. I think it is in sad shape, rusty, bent, warn badly and needs replaced. It is 36 inches long from end to end. Is there someone that sells a shaft for a shortened chassis or do I need to cut and weld like they did the old one.

All you need is another shift rod from the junkyard (or wherever) and one of these: Image https://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.as ... C-C10-2660 Just cut the end off the shift rod so it's close to correct, then use the adjuster to fine tune it. The adjuster works with the EARLY shift coupler only: Image Not the later one that pivots: Image

As far as the shift rod being bent, it is supposed to have some bend in it so it will clear the "E" brake cables in the top of the tunnel. As usual, Lee was right on with the rest of the info.

Or is it supposed to be back farther in the tunnel more towards the transmission?
