How does your 1641 run?
How does your 1641 run?
Mine is a dog. It's a 1050lb 1641 Kaddie Shack kadron,Protronic 3,1.25 rockers stock trans slug. Maybe I expect to much, it hardly gets past 70mph.

Re: How does your 1641 run?
Well... hanging off the back of Xena (she weighs about 1400 lbs as we drive her)... I don't have a 1641cc, but I do have a basically stock 1600cc!!!
I'm running stock cam with steel pushrods that I set at .0015" clearance though it calls for .000" (zero) lash!!! I too have a set of 1.25 ratio rockers on solid shafts with shims instead of wavey spring washers!!! My dual 40mm Kadrons were prepped by AJ Sims in Orange, he is known as "Mr. Kadron"!!! Each one has a measured & verified 130 main gas jet in it & I'm running the SCAT dual carb linkage & I do not have a cross-over tube, which is suppose to give you a few more hp!!!
It ran best when I had a CompuFire DIS IX "distributorless" ignition system on it!!! I removed it & installed it on our VW Bus "Lucy" not too long before the top of her fuel pump came off & she caught fire & burned to the ground!!!
I re-installed a "older" 009 distributor with the point dwell set at 54* & I set the timing at 28* @ 3000 rpms!!! I re-adjust the timing to 30* if I'm heading to elevations higher than 6000 ft.!!! It still runs great with the 009/points, but not quite as well!!!
The exhaust system is a Tri-Mil "Bobtail" Quiet-Pack that has a muffler!!!
I run straight 30wt oil & the engine case is "full-flowed" & I have a spin-on oil filter!!! I use a early 36hp style fan shroud that has been converted to a "doghouse" style with the larger oil cooler & wider fan!!!
I also run Bosch W8AC sparkplugs gapped at .028"!!! If I can't find Bosch, I run a comparable NGK!!! Stock German flywheel & a HD clutch disc & pressure plate!!!
The swingaxle transaxle has a 4.37 R&P & stock ratio trans gears (1st-3.80, 2nd-2.06, 3rd-1.26 & 4th-.89)!!!
My rear tires are usually P235/70R15s & are about 28" tall, mounted on 8" wide wheels!!! I can cruise at 65-70 mph all day long & I've had Xena up to 105 mph several times, twice with my wife onboard!!! She's not a rocket, but she's pretty zippy & fun to drive!!!
Check your distributor to make sure the advance weights are moving like they should & not binding up!!! Maybe check your valves adjustment... if you are running the aluminum pushrods, the valve stem/rocker clearance should be .006" for both intake & exhaust!!! Did you adjust your carbs or did the Kaddie Shak??? If the timing is set right & it runs, the ignition module should be OK!!! I had 3 CompuFire ignition "point replacement" modules fail!!!
Hope this steers you in the right direction!!! With your buggy being that light, your 1641cc should push it along real well!!!

Sold the 1641 and built a 2180 so far so good.
