I've bought a dash and stainless rollbar from the Manx Store last pring and got a nasty surprise when UPS collected their x-mas funds in the form of their customs brogerage fees. It was more than the shipping the Manx Store charged me. I actually had to pay it twice as the package were shipped seperatly. Now I'm thinking of getting the front bumper but cannot go through this again! It still hurts! Do you think they'd be willing to send it USPS or do I have other options for getting stuff shipped to me from the Manx Store? Canadian dealer? I live on the East Coast up in Canada. Montreal, Quebec, Canada Thanks in advance.

I have purchased several items from the manx store including a front bumper,( ups ) windshield,( grayhound ) etc. and never had a problem. I ordered with windy on the phone, paid for shipping and that was it. no extra charge. everything was very well packed and arrived undamaged. Maybe the extra charge has some to do with Canada. Talk with Windy on the phone and I am sure you can get it worked out. She is a very nice to talk with and easy to work with.

If you could have them (or someone else) declair it as a "gift" on the customs form, you should not have to pay any duty. I ship stuff to the UK all the time that way and have not heard of a problem.

The problem is Canada. It's the charges that UPS charges the customer to review the duty and perceive taxes for the shipment. UPS has the worst over charges for this service here in Canada. Even declared as gift, the charge is the same. I'm not talking about duty charges, this is the charge for the service UPS provides to clear customs. USPS is by far much better for us Canadians and charge a flat rate of $5.00. See I don't mind paying Manx Club the price but throwing my money out for this service is none sense to me.

Maybe a Manx Club Member in SoCal can work as a middleman to get the part from the Manx Club and ship it USPS to help out the Canadian Buggistas.

I ran into the same problem with a ss marine deck cover that I wanted for a fuel filler cover. The package would have been about 6" square and the broker fee was $28. I said no way and sent it back. When I ordered my windshield from Bugshields I used a business service just across the border in Washington state. They charge $3 to use their address and then I would pick it up and bring it thru the border myself. It would still have Federal and Provincial taxes but no broker fees. When I picked it up, the windshield was cracked in a hundred places so I didn't accept it. I spoke to Dino and it was returned to him and he suggested using US postal service and marking it as a gift. It was mailed to my address. It came to me in perfect condition with no taxes or fees whatsoever. Dino had marked it as a gift and called it a "prototype windshield". THANKYOU DINO!! The gift idea worked for me 100%. I know the gift method works but I'm not trying to get out of paying duty or taxes. I'm not trying to abuse the system here. Just don't want to sponsor the UPS x-mass fund any more. I've paid my share to them. I've ordered many items from eBay USA and when they send it USPS (even if not marked as gift) there is no brokerage fees. The most I've had to pay was 4.96 for duty and taxes on a camera lens ordered from B&H Photo Video. The middle man in SoCal might work but I fear it's not as easy as sending the package USPS directly, you see when I ordered the roll bar and dash, I wanted the items shipped to my dad's shop where I store my buggy. I work in a downtown office on the 38th floor 100 miles away. Winny agred to ship the item to my dad's location but when UPS called to inform me of the delivery, the Manx Store had shipped the items to my billing address on the 38th floor!!! That was fun bringing it home on the bus! I guess I have to come to terms with this idea, owning and building a buggy implies being willing to pay extra. I guess this is what helps make our rides a little more special when you tell your stories to people! I'm not even going to start telling you what hoops I needed to go through to get my Recaros from Germany! I guess I should just be greatfull that the Manx Store exists and we still can get new parts for our buggys. Wonder how long they'll want to do this: Note to myself: Should probably order a hood and side pods just in case... Got to convince the wife first I guess, and come to terms with the UPS gouging
