Bishop Buggy Run

Had a great time there. Seen alot of beautiful country. There were 60+ buggies there with no large breakdowns. Thanks to Bob & Nancy Lee and their family for scouting the area and leading the runs. On Friday Bob & Nancy lead a small group of us up the back way into the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Bruce and his grandson went to and was the sweep car. Climbed from 4,100 feet to over 10,000 feet in less than 15 miles. 2 buggies had problems with making it up passed a rough point on the trail and turned around an went back. Great view of Bishop and the valley down below us. Stopped for lunch at the Bristlecone vistors area and then back down the trail. The water crossings were lots of fun on the way back. Saturday went on the group that went to coyote Pass or Canyon? following Billy Lee and his family. There was 25 buggies in the group. Great country to see on the west side above Bishop. The trail was rocky in places and some steep climbs, everyone made it up the hills. Stopped for lunch and in a grove of trees and it was open all around. Off in the distance could see an small glaicer further up the mountains. We were about at 10,000 feet. Went on a little further to a remote cabin that is used sometimes as shelter for people who get stuck out there in bad weather. Then we went on back the same way we had came heading back towards Bishop. Had to stop for a few Mexineering fixes on the trail back. Both great runs with good people. Congrats to Buggybob Hunter and his wins for his Resorter. Only one Manxter was there besides Bruce's Dual Sport Manxter and that was ManxterMark with his Yellow one. Had a great time with no problems other than cracking a windshield when I kissed a rock with the frontend.

When I asked the Lee family to adopt me, they smiled. :drinking: :rock: This was one of the best Manx Club runs I have been on. Excellent! The back country the Lee family took us to was out of this world. Water crossings always add to the flavor and we had a lot of flavor on these runs I really hope they do Bishop again next year. The scenery was something else.The runs had all the elements anyone would need. I was sure amazed how few breakdowns we had for as many buggies were on the runs. The breakdowns we did have were quickly fixed. I was happy with my fuel injection on this trip going from 4000ft to over 10,000ft everyday even more fun with a little less sweat Thank you B&W and the Lee family, you could not have done better Gene C #729

Hi All we just got home today, we left early Monday , and when we got up this morning at camp it had snowed in the mountains, just about to the valley floor, we had gone up to the lake to fish Sunday afternoon about 1:30 p.m. ( i did catch 2 nice ranbow trout) Made My Day. it was a little cold but nothing like i think it is now. Ralph, Great pictures of Bishop. I added a couple. Your shots of the old B.F. Meyers shop are priceless. Do you own the fuscia manx? I've got one the same color waiting to be finished.

Yes the fuscia Manx is mine, glad you liked the pictures, i got home and found i had taken 272 of them, i guess my finger had a twitch or something, i made the videos with all of them and only posted 60 so far if anyone would like to see the rest let me know and i can e-mail them . also glad you liked the pictures of Bruces old shop. ralphdjeeper/crate/man.

Did you know there were hot springs all around Bishop They were a good warm up for a very hot time

The love shack was a big hit a real get a way spot

Cairomanx, That airfield is interesting. I think Leadville Co. has the highest one now. The towns at 10200, but Can't remember the airports elev. Its below my old house there, we use to see the planes take off below us. But the house was at 10455( Pilots altimeter)

The webpage for Leadville does say its the highest now at 9927 ft. It says they do high altitude testing there now. That website about Coyote Flats has some great info about other old airfields. The former airfield where Vic morrow was killed filming Twilight Zone was the same place they filmed the Baa Baa Black Sheep episodes. Those are the type of out of the way places its fun to look for in a buggy. When we left Bishop, my brother and I drove down 395 to near Johannesburg and went out into the desert to where the X-15 crashed
