East Coast Event?
I think a spring and fall event on the east coast is very do-able. Keep up the discussions and pre-planning. If you have any questions about Manx Club events planning , just ask!
East Coast Event?
So what needs to happen next to get the ball rolling?

East Coast Event?
I will work on Carlisle (Spring), and you guys work on a second event, which would hopefully be more central on the east coast. Lets make the 2nd event more like the west coast events with the show & shine, runs, awards & raffles and for Manx Club members only. I am talking to Ed B. from Carlisle next week and will let you know what happens. Tom

I'll second a vote for the Outerbanks... September would be a great time.. still great weather but the prices and crowds are way less. IF there's an official group getting this together I'd be happy to help out..
Tom, that's a bummer about Bruce and Carlisle... I finally have a real Manx and was hoping to have him sign it next year!

Adam - just because Bruce may not be going to Carlisle, doesn't mean he won't be comming east. I had a discussion with Bruce & Winnie at the Mammoth Lakes event about this and they want to attend an east coast event next year. It will all depend on when & where and their availability. They were even talking about driving from the west coast in a buggy with other buggies, like a buggy Power Tour. People could join along the way or meet along the way. I will add information as I get it. Tom

A cruise on the beach would be cool, sort of a farewell to summer type thing. Are there other places to cruise as well? Is there a camp ground in the area that would hold enough people? If people didn't want to camp maybe we could find a hotel to take over for the weekend. Thoughts? That brewery looks like a nice place, it might be a cool idea for either lunch or dinner on Sat.
Also, what would need to happen to make this an official Manx Club event? Do we need to put together a proposal? How is money usually handled for the events? Is there sort of a template schedule that the West Coast events use?

East Coast Event?
The drive down the main (usually only) road from north to south is a really nice drive and includes some ferry rides, light houses, etc. So it's great for those who wont' be going off road too.louisb wrote:A cruise on the beach would be cool, sort of a farewell to summer type thing. Just checking it out and that looks like a really nice location. The wild horses on the beach look really cool and we could do a bonfire on the beach at night. So maybe a draft schedule for Sat would be Breakfast, driving on the beach, Lunch, something? (maybe free time to do tourist type things in the area), Dinner followed by the bonfire? For the cruise we would need to plan a route and someone would need to be a guide.

We could just all stay at the First Colony Inn which looks really nice. See what they could do with a package deal. They have better rates after Oct 1.

We could do a beach cruise and a hard surface cruise depending on if we have enough people.73SpeedBuggy wrote:The drive down the main (usually only) road from north to south is a really nice drive and includes some ferry rides, light houses, etc. So it's great for those who wont' be going off road too.louisb wrote:A cruise on the beach would be cool, sort of a farewell to summer type thing. OK, here are some links to campgrounds on the Outer Banks.
This one is for the entire area:

This one is for the Oregon Inlet one that is about 5 miles south of Nags Head:

This one is for the RV camping on Roanoke Island 5 miles west of Nags Head:

This is a youtube video of the First Colony Inn:

You can also drive on the beach in Kill Devil Hills from Oct 1 to April 15. This is just north of Nags Head and where the Wright Brothers Memorial is located..
As has been said the weather is still nice here in Oct and the ocean water is still about 70F as I write this today so a beach drive would be nice. I will say that it would be tide dependant but I could get a schedule together that took that into consideration.
As for meals the Dunes Restaurant has a great brunch on the weekends and would have enough room to handle a crowd as well as being reasonable.

As for bond fires that would need a permit, but is easily gotten as long as it has not been too dry. I can take care of this!
As for seeing the wild horses they are up in Corolla (30 miles north of Nags Head) and are usually on the back roads (which are actually all sand) and can be seen most days if you know where to look. This would be a great run for the buggies since you cannot drive on the dunes.
I would be more than happy to help set the Outer Banks part of this up! I have talked to a bunch of people about this (restaurant, rental etc) and they would love to see something like this come here and would be willing to help with promotion, accommodations, meals etc.

Here are a couple of vids of Buggys riding on the Outer Banks by SiggyManx33. I seem to remember that he is a club member.

If we went camping we would probably need a place that could do both RV & tent camping.
The Dunes Restaurant looks nice as well. If we do this I think we should shoot for off season which is after Oct 1 as prices will be lower and the area less crowded.
I am thinking that a trip up there may be in order to scope everything out.

Not sure if you've realized this yet or not, but Surfnc actually lives there. Or maybe you're just looking for an excuse to go out there.. which I totally understand!

East Coast Event?
Yeah I realize that he lives there. I just thought it might be a good idea for those interested and able to meet up there and check things out. My schedule it pretty tight until spring so it may not even work out that I can get up there anyway. But before we go to much farther, I want to get the Club's input on what needs to be done next to make this work as a Club event. What information needs to be gathered, what needs to be put together and who needs to okay it. Is this something that Tom and the board need to discuss and put their stamp of approval on and what info would they need to make that decision.
Up until this point we have been mostly brainstorming about having an event and possibly where. We have at least three people willing to organize it and we have at least two potential places to host it.
