New around here, but in 1969 the USAF sent me to the 1st Mob in the Philipines. From there I went in country several times setting up radio sites and even got a TDY to Kunson Korea. May not be combat vet, carried an M-16 but as a radio Tech. I always had a lot of Army around me. Gads!!! Where did all those years go??? Dick

Air Force retiree, 25 years aircraft maintenance, '79-'04. Not combat vet, but on Sept 11, I was 5 miles south of Iraq border helping launch Predators and my last TDY was Kandahar, Afghanistan.

The only combat I saw was in Oxford, Mississippi getting James Medrith in Old Mis. It was 13 days of Urban Combat. Then there was 3 days in Panama City, Fl. in October 62 waiting to jump on Cuba. I served as a Medic with the 101st Airborne Div (when they still jumped from airplanes) from Feb 61-Aug 63. At that time I never heard of Nam. Just before I got out the Special Forces folks came around asking for volenteers, I wonder why..... Bob

My father was a Manx Club member, #141. He was a Navy doctor. He joined in 42 but didn't see combat until Korea when he landed with the Marines at Inchon. He died in '97. I know we have one WWII Navy vet at least in the club. He had a carrier sunk out from under him by a Kamikaze. I'm glad Bill started this thread, its very timely.

I am Navy vet. Was in from 80-86. I was part of the beirut multinational peace-keeping force. Sad to say I carried caskets when they bombed the american embassy over there and again when they truck-bombed the marine barracks. I saw the first broadside fired in anger since the vietnam war off the coast of beirut and we were fired upon and returned fire while over there also. It doesn't quite compare to the guys in the field. My hat's off to all veterans. And I raise my glass to all who served and will serve:drinking:
