Tell me about your carpeting...
Sorry, I missed your original question. The carpet is actually three separate pieces. One covers the front bulkhead and is cut over the tunnel with some extra material that tucks under the second piece that covers the front floor and tunnel. At the rear I've cut the carpet so it lays as best as possible over some of the complex curves at the rear center and the seam is under the parking brake lever boot. At that position is actually the third piece that caps off the rest of the tunnel. I've used standard carpet mat for an underlayment in the front and doubled the mat at the rear section so the carpet lays flat and doesn't have to be molded around another set of corners and curves. Where the carpet lays over the tunnel I used spray adhesive liberally so it won't bunch up and deform. I expect it to give me trouble in the future when I need to remove it for any reason but until then I'm OK with that.
I bought some cheap indoor/outdoor carpet @ home Depot, less than $25, cut some to fit the tunnel and used carpet glue adhiesive to mount it. I then cut a template of the floor area on each side out of 1/4" plywood, glued the carpet to those and they can be removed for cleaning etc. Carpet alone, rumpled up and would'nt stay in place. Works great and keeps the noise down.
Great idea about using sheets of 1/4 ply...I hope you don't mind me stealing that method for mine???
