Coil wire
I suggested the fake coil wire once in the past.use vacuum hose, with any obvious writing carb-cleaned off and crimp on plug/coil wire ends available at napa or other reputable auto parts stores.(Check for a LACK of cheap electric motorcycles and go carts in the store and you'll know your in the right place)!Use some wire sticking out of the middle of the hose at each end if you really want it to look even better.Unfortunately I have heard of people who were out only to get vintage aircooled vw's,carrying ignition rotors etc. It's sad....I was going to also go with a removable,(quick release) steering wheel but after looking at it more tonight the turn signal switch will require the steering wheel being mounted near the end of the steering shaft,( the wheel is flat),leaving a 3-4" gap between the wheel and turn signal switch which looks hideous.I know people could steal it with a socket and breaker bar ,vise grips etc but have you ever tried driving that way? I have only moved junk cars that way and it would be pretty frealy if you became "un-visegripped" going around a corner or something equally harry.I agree that if someone really wants your buggy they will lift it and carry it away,(by hand or by trailer or?????)I think there are some nice parking locks (brake hydrolic ones)on the market but I don't have one.I will likely sacrafice driving my buggy a lot of places due to being too paranoid!
Several times, I have driven my Manx to downtown Chicago on a Friday evening and parked it on the street for 3-4 hours (9:00 pm to about 12:00/1:00 am.) at a time and I haven't had anyone bother it. I worry more about the drive to and from, then worrying about the buggy on the parked on the street. I do have a fuel shut off and a battery disconnect, both of which are easily bypassed on a buggy.
How about the "Club", a bar that clamps on to the steering wheel. I picked one up at a garage sale for $5, and now use it all the time. If you crank the wheel all the way to one side, and put the club on, it is pretty difficult to move the buggy at all. The way I position the Club on the steering wheel, it lands between the windshield and the side of the body. Someone could still remove the steering wheel and steal the buggy, but it would certainly slow them down.
