Widest rim

Post by jspbtown »

I have been shopping for some rims for my soon to be restored manx. What is the widest rim people are running. I need it to fit under the fender.

if you need it to fit under the fender that's not going to be a very wide tire. I would say your only going to be able to have about a 8" tire so a 5" rim would work. Why does it need to fit under the fender? If your worried about safety inspection that's one of the tings no one cares about with buggies.

Actually its the rear that I am more concerned about. I am looking at a set that has 2 15x4 and 2 15x12. I am concerned the 15x12 will be to wide for the rears.

12" is way to wide if you are concerned about rear fender coverage. I run an 8.5 centerline and mine stick out what could be an inch. What type of backspacing do they have? Check out this thread. http://www.meyersmanx.com/forums/showth ... =tire+size or do a search on rear tire sizes, there is plenty of info in the archives.

The wheels on the back of my Manx are 7.5 inches wide and they stick out a bit. Image

Jerry, Are they 14" fronts? Funny, I don't see many manx's driving from the rear and that is a good shot of the stance......looks good.

Nope....15" front and rear. That picture also reminded me that the hair on the back of my head is going away

I am getting my tires in today and I will be mounting them Sat. I have 6's for the front and 10's for the rear. I will post pics on here once I get them on my buggy. Jeremy Chatanooga, TN

these are the 8s I have on now. they 'barely' hang past the fender. but the tread is under, which is PA regs. sidewall sticking out doesn't count. Image

The amount the tires stick out of the fenders will also depend on the axles being used. There are short swingaxles, long swingaxles and IRS. I'm running short awing axles in my Manx. The long swing axles and the IRS axles are the same width.
