Brake Parts

Post by Reverb »

I just found out, that the link pin beam I have is older than I thought. The wheel cylinders have 4 mounting bolts. I`ve been told those are pre 1953, and unavailable. Does anybody know if the backing plates for a newer link pin beam will fit on this antique?

I cant say I know. but I bet it would be easy to find out or even just modify what you have to work with new cylinders. maybe it is a good time to go with disk? I have a 59. and it has 3 bolts to hold on the backing plate I believe. I can get some measurements if you like. it is on the buggy so who knows how accurate it will be. guessing at 2 1//2 from top to bottom and 4 1/2 from front to rear? I did not me sure just looked at.. the one bolt is in front and 2 bolts in the rear.

There are 3 bolts that hold on the backing plate. The wheel cylinders have 4 small bolts. Most of the link pins I`ve seen have either 2 bolts for early, or 1 bolt for later on the wheel cylinders.

I changed some of what I wrote there. mine has 1 bolt for the cylinder it is old enough you may be able to sell parts and buy disk

Im sure i came accross this problem years ago,,,, but like the hair,,,my memory is going :(

If the backing plates are actually of the 53 vintage and are infact unique to the very old VW Beetles you may be able to use the backing plates to finance your new brake components. Restorers pay good money for nice vintage parts. Just a thought.
