It has been over 6 months since I have posted here - due to some very sobering personal delimas my buggy building took a vacation. As some of my old friends know, I have a "close" clone buggy body that I have restored and is ready for paint - BUT (grin, grin) I have an original Manx body that has been re-gelcoated and is near being ready for paint. I ran into a guy that really wants to build another buggy (his was stolen at a car show) and does not care about it being a Manx......He wants to purchase mine - so the question is, how much is my clone body worth? I know that I will never get what I have in it back, but ???? Would it be worth the price of a set of Sidepods? I quit measuring in $$$ a long time ago, I now try to measure in barter value... Any thoughts? It is great to be back - My thoughts were always gotta get the buggy ready, but $$$ and time and lawyers got in the way. Everything seems to be now over, I won the court case - no money, but a great vindication of my integrity...
I don't know how much your body is worth but I can tell you what I paid for my body I got from Fiber Jet Industries. The mold my body was made from was an original Manx mold Bruce used prior to closing up shop. The mold was sold and ended up at Fiber Jet. I don't know all the details about that but I do know the body mold is an original Manx modified to accept IRS suspension. I also have a Manx 2 style hood. The cost at the time I bought it a couple of years ago was about $1300.00
Good to see you back! As for selling the body, thats a tough call. A person can wrap up the cost of a new body for the price of a good paint job. I would hate to see it like so many other started projects be put out side and go to waste. It would be hard to recover your time you have invested in it. I would ebay it Jim. Put a starting price on it that you could live with and see what happens.
Whenever you're negotiating the price of something, the first person who names a price, loses. Ask him what he'll offer. If its a lowball offer, say no thanks and Craigslist it. If its reasonable, make a reasonably higher counter offer. A clone body ready for paint is really only worth a few hundred, despite what you've invested.
