Here we go again . . . the Burro

Post by Scott-Drolet »

Well, I know I said I was starting a re-restoration of the Manx, and I will, I will. But, I came across a '64 Burro that I couldn't pass up. Besides, it'll allow me to take my time on the restoration since I can drive this on the runs. I'm the third owner and it's in really good shape physically. The original framework is in amazing shape and it still has most of the original parts on it. The 1915 Engine is strong, but it's leaking, so I'll have to work on that a little bit. And with the bus reduction gears it'll do a wheelie in second gear (THAT took some getting used to compared to the 1600cc Manx). Here's some pictures of it: Image Image Image Image

That looks like one of the two Burros that were at Lone Pine in 2005. Were they restored by the same person? Image

The Burro

Very nice! I own a Burro also. Looking at this Burro it looks like one of the Burros that was owned by the Mesa Muffler family, the Dodsans. Do you know if it is? They owned a couple of original Burros plus they have built some Burro replicas. I have ownrd four Burros over the years. I aslo am the person that owned and restored the Volvo powered Burro that was in Hot VWs a year or so ago. As soon as I can figure how to, I will put some photos of the Burro in the members photo gallery. Can you give me some help with that? Thanks Steve Burro 8 #1949

Hey Steve, I use Photobucket to download my pictures to, then copy the link and post it using the "Insert Image" link on the toolbar menu right above this box I'm typing this text in. (I'm sure someone here can give a better explanation). This is an original Burro purchased from, whom I believe, was the second owner. He owned it for two years, having bought it from a Neigbor, Ron, who had two of them (and Ron still has the one). Ron is in his late seventies or early eighties and used to live in San Clemente before moving to Yucca Valley, which is where I purchased this car and it's where the other one still remains. Ron is out travelling in his motorhome until October, but I'll be going out to see him then to get a more complete history on this car. I did see old paperwork dating back to the early 1990's with Rons name on it, but wasn't smart enough to get his last name at the time. I've emailed Bob to see if I can find out the full name. I'll let you know when I hear back.

Burro

Post by steve heckert »

Scott Yes if you find out more information please let me know. I would like to find out Ron's last name. My father was a member of the Orange County Burro club back in the late 60s and early 70s. I have a club members list from 1969 and 1970 along with Burro club jacket, decals and other stuff. Do you mind giving me your email address? I will send you pictures of my Burro's. Thanks Scott Steve
