Old Articles and Adds?

Post by Gigantalope »

I have been peroozing old car mags looking for interviews with Bruce, and Advterts for Manx's (and other nostolgai buggy stuff) and while I have found some good ones, it's hard to search and find if they have been previosuly posted. I think most of us love these old archives, and I thought this might be a good idea for a seperate forum segment. One atricle I found was a good one from Sept 1966 Road & Track. You can take a look at it here, They are in reverse order but you should be able to figure it out since they are numbered correctly. http://www.flickr.com/gp/21199629@N06/J8bMo2

Yes, that would be cool stuff to view online. I wonder what copyright restrictions we would have for scanning them and posting them online? Any attorney's out there that could venture an expert opinion?

I think as we don't make money from it, and we credit the source, it should not be any problem at all to re-post old copywritten materials. Under these circumstances nobody is harmed or financially effected by it. It's not like were posting a unreleased Harry Potter Book so people won't buy a new one. If a person of company somehow were to be negativly effected by this, it's thier responsibility to give us the oppertunity to remove it.

I have a copy of the January 1968 issue of Sports Car Graphic. There is a picture of the Inch Pincher, but on the lower left there is a picture of a red manx, and Bruce seemingly driving a blue Manx over a near cliff. The actual article in the mag only talks about the VW engine. Image

I've never seen that picture before, nice find. I'm not going to swear to it but Bruce's ex-wife Shirley was in some of the pictures they used in ads, etc. That might be her standing next to Bruce's Manx. The picture does look fairly similar to one they used in an ad which had all the Meyers Manx dealers listed. It showed a Manx perched on the edge of a rough eroded cliff. Image

A couple years ago I posted some scanned ads and such in the Manx Gallery, most of you have probably seen them. For those who haven't, here is the link. http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/album166 If you know any history regarding the company or the buggy, please leave a comment in the gallery. I would like the page to eventually become somewhat of a resource for people researching their buggy's origin.
