Sea 2 Sea Safari 2

Post by manxvair »

The 2020 Manx on the Banx will be celebrating the 10th year anniversary. I'm looking to see if there is interest in driving there from So-Cal, the thought is to rerun the 2013 Sea 2 Sea route. I would like to make a couple of sightseeing stops along the way, like Cadillac Ranch-TX, Oklahoma City memorial-OK, Graceland-TN for examples. The 2013 route was scheduled for 7 days on the road. MOTB 2020 is a 7 day event scheduled for Monday Oct 12th-Sunday Oct 18th
2013 Route;
Official 7 Day Route ‘Sea to Sea Safari’ (C2C)
San Diego, CA to Nags Head, NC.

Day 1– San Diego, CA to Tucson, AZ – 425 miles – 9.5 hours (I-8E/I-10E/E22nd Street)

Day 2- Tucson, AZ to Roswell, NM.- 460 Miles — 10 hours (I10E/US-70E)

Day 3- Roswell, NM to Oklahoma, OK – 470 Miles — 10.5 hours (US-70E/I-40E)

Day 4- Oklahoma City, OK to Little Rock, AR – 337 Miles — 7.5 hours (I-40E)

Day 5- Little Rock, AR to Nashville, TN – 431 Miles — 9 hours (I-40E)

Day 6- Nashville, TN to Winston-Salem, NC – 298 Miles — 7 hours (I-40E)

Day 7 – Winston-Salem, NC to Nags Head, NC – 345Miles – 6.5 hours (I-40E/US-64E/NC-12)

Total Miles: 2766

Questions;
What day would you like to arrive in the Outer Banks, NC?
Would you be driving back or shipping car & flying home?
Are there other sights you would like to see?
You can post responses or questions here or email me mdario@manxclub.com

I'm all in for this. I have been thinking about this since you mentioned it at Big Bear.

Mike when you come to Memphis, we will join you with our new Manx for the rest of the way. If that's ok?

Absolutely! anyone can join in at any time.
I think the Graceland visit will be to the wall out front where you can sign it, in 2013 the wait for a tour was 2-3 hrs so it would almost require a full day stop.

This trip is a very large time commitment and we understand some are limited on Vacation time. In 2013 we drove out but flew home & shipped the buggy back to Southern California, this obviously saved a week of time off from work, this is another option for some to consider.

Yes Bob it cost us $1300 to ship the buggy from Nags Head, NC to Glendale CA. That was using Reliable-Carriers in an enclosed trailer. Our buggys were in the same shipment as a couple of Year One vehicle restorations. There is some more economical carriers I'm sure, I would definitely stay with an enclosed trailer though.

Yes, definitely more to come, this is just my initial idea to get the conversation started and see what others think, I am open to suggestions. I know the time commitments are of concern to others.

I was on Sea 2 Sea #1. Even though I was one of the 2 support vehicles, it was still a blast. We kept the broken down buggies moving until they could be fixed. I still got some buggy time when one of the buggy drivers needed out of their buggy. If you ever wanted a cross country trip and buggy event on the beach at the end, with a bunch of fun people, this is your chance. Tom

I plan on doing the Sea 2 Sea 2020. Had a lot of fun last time. Spent almost 30 days on the road with visiting with relatives and friends on the drive back home too. Many memories of the trip.
I like to get there when the activities start instead of missing the first couple of days like we did last time.
Scott Drolet did an awesome job of finding the places to stay and mapping out the route. We all had a copy of AAA trip guide with us supplied by Scott.

We could depart from So-Cal on Sunday which would reduce dealing with morning traffic in San Diego, and then arrive in NC the following Sunday with the event starting on Monday.
